TJ tournament update

Post by jewtemplar »

The following is a change to the previously announced JIAT pricing:
The first team is now $50 (not $55), the second team now $45 (not $50).
Buzzer discounts are still $5 per working set, and question sets are still $25, as mandated by NAQT.

Registrations are still being accepted for this tournament. All are welcome, and we once again expect to see a strong field comprised mostly of DC metro area teams, with some travellers as well.

The format is timed NAQT, with 5 alternating rounds of swiss paired prelim play guaranteed to all teams. A single elimination playoff will rank the top 8 teams, who will (depending on size of field) all receive a bid this year's NAQT HSNCT. The top 4 teams will receive a bid for the PACE NSC scheduled for June 11-12 at Valencia Community College in Orlando.

If you have any questions, or would like to register, please contact me by email (thebestdictator at aol dot com), aim (jewtemplar) or phone ((703) 455-6548).

I look forward to seeing some of you in less than 3 weeks.

It's looking like STAB will bring a team or two... we don't precisely qualify as local, being in the nether-world of Central VA.
See you soon!

Speaking of the locals...

Post by Ratatosk of ER »

The Eleanor Roosevelt team won't be coming to this one. We didn't want to go to two tournaments on the same weekend (UMCP is the 3rd of October). Also, Mr. Greenbaum seems to have decided to boycott TJ tournaments in general because he says they cost too much. I'm trying to convince him to drop the boycott for the second TJ tournament this season; we'll see.

Though I don't see how a $50 entrance fee is crippling to the circuit, I understand Mr. Greenbaum's position. I'm sorry you will be missing out on some good competition this year. Best of luck at Maryland.

Taking my lead from UMD, a field update for JIAT II, to be held October 2. Registration will continue for a while, but if you're delaying, let me know by email that you're interested. Also, the NAQT set to be used for the tournament is IS-44.

Registered:
Maggie Walker, VA (4)
Richard Montgomery, MD (3)
St. Anne's Belfield, VA (2)
State College, PA (2)
Oakton, VA (2)
McLean, VA (2)
Raleigh Charter, NC (2)
Seton Hall Prep, NJ (Hardcore)
Blake, MD (Hardcore)
Princess Anne, VA
Wakefield, VA
Charlottesville, VA

Tentative:
Georgetown Day, DC (2)
Maret, DC (2)
Marshall, VA

This is shaping up to be a pretty good field, but the more the merrier.

Yeah... hardcore?
You all are hardcore because you are going to both UMD and TJ.

Walter Johnson should be bringing one team to the tournament.

Not anymore--UMD has apparently been moved to the 10th. BTW, in light of that development there is now a possibility (hopefully probability) that ER will be bringing a team to TJ. Assuming, of course, that there are still any spaces available.

Which Robert E. Lee is that? The one in the Washington area or the one in Southwestern Virginia closer to Spotswood?

How many teams make the playoffs. If remember last year was 32 but it doesn't look like that this year.

Yes, 32 would be rather ridiculous last year. The playoff will be 16 teams. The top 5 or 6 will receive NAQT bids, and it may only be the top 2 who receive PACE bids, unless a few more teams register late in the game. The field, though small, is still quite strong, though. The small size of this tournament will make it particularly easy to run, which is good for everyone.
