Golden Eagle Bowl on 9/22/2012 - Raleigh, NC

Post by msmathwhiz »

*This is the full announcement for the Golden Eagle Bowl – 9/22/2012*

The Enloe Quiz Bowl teams are excited to announce that we will host the season opener for 2012-2013 with the first Golden Eagle Bowl. This is a high school Quiz Bowl tournament that will take place from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The tournament is open to any high school team that wishes to attend.

Enloe Magnet High School is located approximately 3 miles east of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Registration pick-up, opening meeting and matches will be conducted in the “Tower” on Enloe’s campus. There is ample on-campus parking for cars and buses adjacent to the football stadium.

AFFLIATION AND QUESTIONS: We will be a mirror for the MSU/UD house-write set.

FORMAT: We desire to host a tournament with 24 teams. At this time we will play 6 rounds before lunch, then a minimum for 4 rounds for playoffs after lunch. We hope to use a real-time Swiss pairing system for matches. Each team will be guaranteed to play a minimum of 10 games. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams, and book prizes will be awarded to the top eight individual scorers. Each match will consist of 2 un-timed halves, with each half consisting of 10 buzzer tossup questions. We will have powers and negs at this meet, but no bouncebacks on bonuses.

REGISTRATION: You may register by email or via the online registration system. If you register by email, please provide me with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you want to bring, and e-mail address where we may contact you. You may also register online at http://tinyurl.com/GEB2012.

Following registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with information about rules, directions to Enloe, specifics about parking and a map of nearby restaurants for lunch. Again, registration fees may be mailed in advance for a discount or paid at the tournament. Checks should be made out to “Enloe Magnet High School.” Registration will run until September 19th.

FEE STRUCTURE:
Base fee: $75 per team. Schools will be limited to registration of two teams until September 15th. After September 15th up to two additional teams per school may be added to the registration.

Buzzer discount: $10 off school's total fee for each fully functional system (control box and eight activators all work)-maximum of two buzzer systems

Staff discount: $10 off school's total fee. This could be a coach, parent, student who is not playing, etc. Volunteer staffers must stay through all the games (except finals) in order to receive credit for their school. You may have only one staffer count for your discount.

Early payment discount: $10 off school’s total fee. If you submit your payment before September 15th, we will take off $10 from your school’s fee.

Travel discount: $15 off school’s total fee for travelling over 150 miles (as determined by Google Maps).

METHOD OF PAYMENT: All teams must pay on or before the day of the tournament. We would prefer that you send in your payment before the tournament, but will also accept payment in person right before the tournament starts. Teams who do not pay on or before the day of the tournament will be charged a $25 penalty and will have two weeks to pay their total amount before we start mailing letters to your school administration about it. We can accept cash, checks from your school, school district, or Quiz Bowl club funds. We cannot accept personal checks.

HOTELS: If you are interested in a local hotel, please contact Celia Rowland ([email protected]).

TEAM & ROSTER SIZE: There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time, with no exceptions. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. There is a halftime substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day-no switching from the B team to the A team, etc. Teams may also play shorthanded with only three players. Teams consisting of fewer than three players may not play without my express prior permission.

We look forward to your participation in our tournament!

Hi, I hope that everyone enjoyed the set today. Please remember that it will be used at several other tournaments throughout the semester, and do not discuss any question content in public. If you have any feedback, either general or on specific questions, please request access to the "MSU/UD set discussion" group found under usergroups in your user control panel.

I want to thank the 22 teams who came out for the Golden Eagle Bowl on Saturday. It was an awesome fall day to open the Quiz Bowl season for 2012-2013. A big thanks to MSU-UD for allowing us to mirror their question set. Congratulations to Early College of Guilford's A team for winning the tournament.

The stats for the 10 rounds played by all are posted here:
http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... standings/

The stats for all 12 rounds played are posted here:
http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... all_games/

The results were
1) Early College of Guilford A
2) Raleigh Charter A
3) East Chapel Hill A
4) NCSSM A

This tournament was Gold certified by PACE so all 4 teams qualify for NSC/PACE next June.

We, Cave Spring, are from Virginia. I think the rest of the field was entirely North Carolina teams.
