RCHS Bonfire of the Manatees (Raleigh, NC - 10/27/12)

Post by whaatt »

This is the full announcement for Bonfire of the Manatees on 10/27/2012.

Raleigh Charter High School is pleased to announce that we will host the 5th Annual Bonfire of the Manatees on Saturday, October 27, 2012. This is a high school Quiz Bowl tournament that will take place from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, though we may finish earlier. The tournament is open to any high school team that wishes to attend.

Affiliation: This tournament will use Norcross High School’s BDAT II set; they have stated that their packets this year will be more enjoyable for teams from all levels of QB experience.

Format: We will play 6 preliminary and 4 playoff rounds; every team is guaranteed at least 6 rounds. All rounds will be played according to NAQT procedures, with 20 pyramid-style tossups and corresponding bonuses. We will play powers and negs at Bonfire, but there will be no bouncebacks on bonuses. As in years’ past, games will be Swiss-paired throughout the day using our automated scoring program. Trophies will be awarded to the two top teams and book prizes for the top ten individual scorers.

Registration: To register, please e-mail Betsy Newmark at betsynewmark AT gmail DOT com with the number of teams and buzzers you wish to bring, and an e-mail address where we may reliably contact you. Soon after, you should receive a confirmation email along with a packet of information regarding the tournament.

Fees: The fee per team will be $65, with a $10 discount for each fully functional buzzer system that has a control box and eight buzzers. Payment may be mailed either prior to October 27, or paid in person on the day of the tournament. Please make all checks out to Raleigh Charter High School.

Teams: There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time, with no exceptions. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. There is a half-time substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day—no switching between the A and B teams, for example. Teams may also play shorthanded with fewer players.

Food: Neither breakfast nor lunch will be provided by the tournament. Further information regarding local food options will be provided along with the confirmation email sent to you after registration.

We hope to see your team at Bonfire!

Bonfire is proud to announce that we are now affiliated with PACE. This means that the top 15% of the tournament field will qualify for the PACE National Scholastic Championship, to be held sometime in 2013. Please visit the PACE website for more details about the NSC and the qualification process.

Thank you on behalf of Raleigh Charter, and congrats on your win today! Composite stats should be up relatively soon, I'm hoping.

To everyone in general, thanks to all the teams which came out for Bonfire. We hope you enjoyed these packets from Norcross High School, and we hope that everything went smoothly overall. We additionally invite you to our house-written Right Triangle Open tournament on February 23 (I believe).

I hope everyone enjoyed the BDAT II questions. If you have any questions regarding the set, feel free to email me at [email protected]. You should also join the private discussion forum for BDAT II by going to the "User Control Panel" and applying for the "BDAT II discussion" group.
