The Quizbowl Resource Center

Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, will host a mirror of ACF Fall on November 3rd, 2012. Due to IHSA regulations regarding high school teams competing with college teams, ACF has granted NIU permission to host a mirror of ACF Fall restricted to high school teams; NIU graciously thanks ACF for this permission. Unfortunately, NIU will not have the capacity to host a separate division for colleges; we encourage colleges that enjoyed DeKalb last year to visit our friends at the University of Wisconsin or Carnegie Mellon University.

With the exception of "only high school teams may attend," all other ACF rules and regulations are in place, including the packet writing requirement for teams containing players that have played a college tournament prior to 9/1/2011.

Registration is done centrally via this online form. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected].

Would having played a set like D2 ICT at a high school tournament count as playing a college tournament for packet writing requirements? By extent, would playing this count as having played a college tournament for future packet writing requirements?

Having played DII ICT last year would not require you to write a packet either way, because the rules say you had to have played a college tournament prior to September of last year to be packet-required.

So long as it was a HS tournament, this shouldn't count for packet-writing requirements.

Metea Valley A would like to register, with the possibility of a B team and a name change if our administration wishes. Unfortunately, we cannot provide buzzers or moderators.

If we need to sign up centrally, how do we indicate that we're doing the HS Mirror? There doesn't seem to be spot for it on the "Site Attending" drop-down list.

Are you receiving registrations, or do we need to contact you in addition to filling out ACF's form?

It's a school that is playing under a pseudonym, likely due to administrative issues.

Yes! In fact, you wouldn't be alone -- DCC has already registered.

I'm waiting on an e-mail from ACF with any updates on teams who have filled out the form but not emailed me; what you see above is what I know.

The field is at 7 teams right now; we'd like to get that up to 10 or 12 teams if possible. Get those registrations in to ACF and e-mails in to me!

"Aurora Way East B" is officially withdrawing from the tournament; I have contacted ACF about this as well.

Way East A is still in.

You had Joe in for Zach in the final round. Zach went 2/0, Joe didn't play.

Fixed in the IHSSBCA's version of the stats.

Ian Torres had three more tossups in our round vs. "Academy of Carpentry" than he is credited for. We had 18 tossups that round, not 15.

The aforelinked stats have this corrected now too.

Thanks, Brad and Kristin, for hosting this. Although we got off to a slow start, we enjoyed the day. A stats correction that doesn't make a difference in the outcome, but in the interest of accuracy: in the tie-breaker we played against Aurora Way East (315-10), we just heard 13, not 20, tossups.

Since that game didn't count for actual stats, we felt the correction was not necessary to make after the tournament.

Kristin, I understand. I mentioned it because I didn't want someone who wasn't there to look at the stats for that round and think that 7 tossups went dead.

By the way, lest anyone have misunderstood my post above, I meant that our team, not the tournament itself, got off to a slow start.
