VHSL tournaments
For all of you Virginia public schoolers out there, it would be good to have a post for the VHSL tournaments, so we can all scout out our competition for Regionals and States...
We at Charlottesville (Group AA, Region II) hosted Districts yesterday; the Jefferson District will be represented by ourselves and Monticello next Saturday at Regionals.
Anyone else out there with results to report?

In the Jefferson District:
Regular season - Charlottesville 15-0 and Monticello 11-4
Tournament - Charlottesville-#1 and Monticello runner-up
In the Northwestern District:
Regular season - Liberty 14-0 and Handley 12-2
Tournament -
They are not having their tournament until this Wed. night. Apparently, they postponed because of Brentsville's exams last week and thought that regionals were Feb. 12 instead of Feb. 5.
In the Dulles District:
Regular season - Loudoun County was 14-0. Don't have the runner-up.
Tournament -
Dulles District may be in a similar situation to Northwestern. Loudoun's coach emailed me that they wouldn't have the tournament results until Wednesday.

The Jefferson used Patrick's Press questions; the other three Districts in the Region II meat-grinder used our questions.
For further updates as I get them check out

(Marian, can you post full standings there -- or here -- if you have them for anyone?)
Next year, I'm going to set up some incentives to get districts to report full results.
Last-place teams in the Northwestern and Valley were able to get 250-300 points between the two teams. Some districts had their strongest teams totalling that much. I'm not sure about how well the lower ranks of the Dulles and Jefferson fared.

The Region II SB Tournament scheduled for Feb. 5 has been rescheduled for Feb. 7 at Turner Ashby High School beginning at 4 p.m.
Apparently the snow and ice last weekend caused the SAT's in the northwestern part of the state to be postponed until the 5th and many SB students were signed up for the SAT's. Since the 12th is the latest date by which to hold the tournament, we wanted to give ourselves a cushion in case of snow next week. Will post the results Monday night.

The Dominion District (Central Region) had its tournament a few weeks ago. Clover Hill again won the district, followed by L.C. Bird. As for Regionals, we shall see what happens there. Half the of our 1st team (Clover Hill) will be driving straight from a 3 day Model UN conference in Norfolk to the tournament, and we will be missing several people due to Science Bowl.
EDIT: This is what happens after a PT competition in 40 degree weather.

First, can someone (coach or player) from the Clover Hill team please email me? [email protected]. I received some comments about the questions and wanted to hear the perspective of experienced teams/players.Chanman wrote:The Colonial District (Central Region) had its tournament a few weeks ago. As for your District, you mean the Dominion District, right?
The Colonial has Maggie Walker, followed by Mills Godwin and Douglas Freeman, and I've even known Patrick Henry-Ashland and J.R. Tucker to have decent teams from time to time. John Marshall, Thomas Jefferson, Deep Run and Hermitage are also in the district.
Eight teams enter, two teams leave. ;-)

TRD = Eastern Montgomery, then Radford.UndercoverParrothead wrote:Anything from the Three Rivers (A) or Blue Ridge (AA)?
Region C = ditto. The Three Rivers have dominated Region C for about as long as I can remember. Galax advanced one year, and George Wythe advanced last year, but most of the time it's been a combination of EastMont, Radford or Auburn. Last year was the first Radford didn't get a trip to Williamsburg
Blue Ridge = Northside, then William Byrd.
River Ridge = Salem, then Blacksburg.
