Kentucky Quizbowl Alliance: 2014-15 Goldenrod Cup

The Kentucky Quizbowl Alliance is pleased to announce the first annual Goldenrod Cup, a year-long competition to reward teams for success at pyramidal quizbowl tournaments hosted in Kentucky. The Goldenrod Cup will be awarded following the conclusion of the last tournament affiliated with this competition, likely in May. Tournaments can affiliate with the Goldenrod Cup by agreeing to the KQBA standards of good tournament practices, which involve having a field open to all varsity high school quizbowl teams in Kentucky, guaranteeing at least 6 games to all attending teams, using pyramidal, academic questions, and providing a full order of finish to the KQBA after the event. The Goldenrod Cup will be awarded to the team who earns the most points at affiliated tournaments, with tournament champions receiving 10 points, runners-up receiving 9 points, and so on through 10th place receiving 1 point. While the following will be a list of currently affiliated tournaments, we have reached out to other tournament directors and hope to add more tournaments to this list soon.

April 11: UK Spring Championship (Lexington)

We are aware of other events that have been announced, and hope to affiliate with those events if and when their tournament directors get in touch with me. The next Goldenrod Cup affiliated tournament is the Kentucky NAQT State Championship in Bowling Green on February 28. The top 10 teams at NAQT State will undoubtedly receive Goldenrod Cup points since there will be no out-of-state teams participating.

The next Goldenrod Cup affiliated tournament, and to my knowledge the last of the season, will be the UK Spring Championship on April 11. Congratulations to Woodford County A for having earned enough points to have clinched the 2014-15 KQBA Goldenrod Cup no matter the result of UK's tournament in April; I will also point out that 8 teams are still mathematically alive for the 2nd place position.
