CSWIFT @ Wilmington Charter, Delaware 10/18 (BASK)

Post by Lo, Marathon Ham! »

We’re proud to announce the return of the Charter School of Wilmington Invitational Fall Tournament (CSWIFT). This tournament will be held on Sunday, October 18th at the Charter School of Wilmington.

Address: 100 N. DuPont Road, Wilmington DE 19807

Time and Date: The tournament will be held on Sunday, October 18th. Registration will begin at 8 AM and matches will begin around 9 AM. The tournament should conclude around 4:30 PM.

Questions: We will be mirroring the BASK set produced by members of the quiz bowl associations at Columbia, Cornell, and the University of Chicago.

Tournament Format: As in past years, we will have two divisions. Our varsity division will be for teams who have more experience playing quiz bowl, while our novice division will be open to new players and teams who have not had much exposure to quiz bowl in the past. All teams in attendance will be guaranteed 9 to 10 games based on the number of teams in attendance.

Registration: Teams can complete registration by emailing us at [email protected] . Please state how many teams, buzzers, and moderators you will bring as well as the intended division for each of your teams. Please include contact information (email and phone number) for the person in charge of your team on the day of the tournament.

Tournament Fees:
$70 for the first team
$60 for additional teams

Tournament Discounts:
-$10 for a moderator
-$5 per buzzer
-$20 per team if your team is new to quiz bowl
-$10 per 100 miles distance traveling one way (by Google Maps)
Minimum price per team: $30

Field Cap: 40 teams (our ideal field would be 24 Varsity and 16 Novice teams)

Lunch: As there aren’t very many eateries near the school, we’d encourage teams to stay in the building during lunch so that we can finish in a timely manner. We will be selling pizzas for $15 a pie (extra-large pies). If you would like to purchase pizzas the day of the tournament, please indicate your estimate for how many you will order in your registration email.

Nationals: This tournament has PACE Platinum Certification meaning that the top 25% of finishers in the Varsity bracket of the tournament will qualify for the PACE National Scholastic Championship held in Chicago in June 2016.

Please bring payment for the tournament in the form of a cash or check the morning of the tournament. All checks can be made out to The Charter School of Wilmington with “Academic Bowl” on the memo line.

We look forward to seeing you on October 18th!

Less than a month to go before the tournament. Get those registrations in! Any teams who can't make it to other BASK mirrors (either the date doesn't work or they are stuck on a waitlist) are welcome to attend our mirror!

If the teams that are posting here to register could also email us at [email protected] for our coach's records, that would be fantastic! Thanks!

Due to unforseen conflicts, Delaware Valley will no longer be able to attend this tournament. We apologize for any negative effects this may have, and wish you all luck at the tournament!

Thanks to all the teams that came out today to play BASK at CSWIFT! We really enjoyed running this tournament even if it was smaller than we're used to. I'd especially like to thank Matt Knotts for his excellent statskeeping, our coach, Mr. Kramer, for helping us run this tournament, Shrayus Sortur, Kevin Murray, Rohan Narayan, Mabel D'Souza, Christina Kim, Ashish Mahuli, Ryan Law, and everyone else who came out to help today!

After playoffs, we played a one game semi-final and a final. In the semi-finals, RM B beat Charter B and RM A beat Turk's Head A. In the finals RM B beat RM A. These four teams qualify for PACE from this tournament (unless our house team doesn't count in which case RM C and Great Valley would be next as they tied for 5th).

Final standing are as follows:
1. Richard Montgomery B
2. Richard Montgomery A
3. Wilmington Charter B
4. Turk's Head (Henderson) A
5. Richard Montgomery C
5. Great Valley A
7. Caesar Rodney
7. C. Milton Wright
9. Turk's Head B
10. Wilmington Charter D
11. Wilmington Charter F
12. Moorestown Friends
12. Wilmington Charter G
14. Stonewold MS
