Itawamba Invitational (Mississippi) 12/5- 151-A

Post by aeteacher »

Itawamba is hosting a quiz bowl tournament on Dec. 5th at our high school (11900 Hwy 25 South, Fulton, MS 38843). We will be using IS-151A. The tournament will be directed by coach Chris Johnson. This will be our first pyramidal tournament to host, but we have attended many quality tournaments including nationals so we hope to take the best parts of all of those and use them to make this tournament successful for novice teams and experienced teams. Itawamba's teams will be playing in the tournament. The readers will be former Itawamba scholars who all have competed at nationals or have NAQT competition experience.

Field size: max of 16
Cost: $65 for 1st team; $55 for each additional team
Discounts: $10 for each WORKING buzzer system; $5 for each 100 miles driven (according to Google maps)

Lunch: We will sell pizza and drinks ($5= 2 slices of pizza plus a drink) plus have snacks for sale during tournament play
Coaches hospitality room will be present with coffee and snacks

Local hotels: Holiday Inn (http://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/ho ... oteldetail)
Days Inn (http://www.daysinn.com/hotels/mississip ... l-overview)

Registration: We will start check-ins and such at 8:00 AM
Coaches meeting: 8:30 AM in the library
1st match: 8:45 AM

We will do a round-robin pool play until lunch (12:00) using standard NAQT rules. Then, we will take the top 2 teams (records, PPG, PPB) from each bracket and play for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (trophies given to top 4). The remaining teams will play consolation rounds against similar teams (determined by PPG). Every team should be guaranteed 7 games. Stats will be kept and awards given to the top 3 individual points earners based upon preliminary games only.

The tournament went very well. Thanks to all who competed and helped run the tournament. The winner was Itawamba A which edged out Lamar in a championship of unbeatens 330-325. Independence took home the 3rd place trophy and Meridian the 4th place.
