Winnebago Frosh/Soph (IL) 12/12/2015

Post by TheDoctor »

To fill in for the absence of Kaneland's frosh-soph tournament, Winnebago will host a frosh-soph tournament on December 12. We'll use NAQT's introductory-level IS-151A question set. Please be aware that this set was also used at Northwestern's novice tournament.

We will use IHSSBCA rules, with the exception that substitutions will not be allowed during time-outs. Powers will be available on tossups, but negs will not. We will run between 7 and 10 rounds for all teams.

Fees
$60 per team
$5/team discount for the second, third, etc. team from one school
$10 discount for each qualified moderator
$5 discount for each scorekeeper
$5 discount for each fully working buzzer system
The minimum cost per team is $25.

To register, please email me at [email protected] with the number of teams, staffers, and buzzers you will bring.

Any interested staffers are always welcome. We offer lunch and $40 to moderators and will probably have some sort of scrimmage over dinner afterward.

Current Field (15/16)
Boylan Catholic
Byron
Carmel Catholic (2 teams)
Galena
Hinckley-Big Rock
Kaneland
Keith Country Day
Mendota
Moline
Morrison
Newman Central Catholic (2 teams)
Rock Island
Winnebago

Post updated to reflect that the tournament is soft-capped at 16 teams for now.

I've been having some email problems, so for anyone who needs this information and somehow did not receive it, here is the text of the informational email sent out to coaches and moderators last week:

Check-in will open at 8:15. The red brick building that fronts on Elida is the middle school; the high school is the light brick building behind it, accessible from McNair Road. Please enter through the front doors of the high school. Winnebago players will be on hand to help direct you from the front doors to tournament central (the library) upstairs.

We currently have 16 teams (this number is in flux, even as of Monday, but this looks like where we'll end) signed up for the tournament. We will use the IHSSBCA standard schedule for 16 teams, which is posted at ihssbca.org/schedules. Everyone will be offered nine rounds. We will play five rounds in the morning and four after lunch. I anticipate that teams not involved in the finals will be finished by 4 or 4:30.

Lunch will be provided for moderators and staffers in the library after round five. If you are bringing a staffer, please let me know this week whether they will eat with us or with your team. If your staffers will eat with us in the library, please also apprise me of any dietary restrictions they have. Lunch options for teams include McDonald’s, Culver’s, Subway, and Taco Bell, all of which are easily accessible from the school.

We will use IHSSBCA rules for this tournament (available here: ihssbca.org/wp-content/uploads/rules201516.pdf), with the exception that substitutions will not be allowed during time-outs. Substitutions may only be made at the half or before any tiebreaker questions are read. We will use powers, but not negs. Bonuses will bounce back one part at a time.

We will be using the SQBS stat program to track information for the tournament. The program can only handle eight players per team per game, so if you have a large number of players on your team and make frequent substitutions, please be aware that not all of your players’ statistics may come back accurately. Top individual players will be calculated after round seven. Players who at that point have played the equivalent of five games (100 tossups) will be considered for the All-Tournament Team.
