November 12 will be the Northern NJ History Bee and Bowl, returning to Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ this year. NJ States will almost certainly be the Saturday of MLK weekend at Ridgewood. Everything else to follow - will post as dates come in. Overall, we expect to run a very similar calendar in the area in 2016-17 compared to 15-16 for NHBB.

LIFT XVI will be held on Nov. 19th, 2016 at Kellenberg Mem HS, Uniondale, Long Island, NY. Questions will be from a NAQT IS set. It will be IS-160.

The Rutgers Academic Team will host the Scarlet Knight Fall Tournament on October 29th on an NAQT A-set.

Smithtown West will be hosting the Smithtown West Invitational Season Starter I (SWISS I) on September 17. We will tentatively be using an IS set.

Confirming NJ NHBB States (projected field size of 90-105 teams!) at Ridgewood High School on Saturday, Jan. 14 (the usual weekend). This will as usual run on B Set and of course is open to out of state teams. The fall tournament at Torah Academy is likely to be either on December 4 or December 11, with December 18 being a less likely option, but a December date appears like it's happening for that at this point.

I am Huzefa Diwan, Vice President of Columbia Quizbowl, and Columbia is pleased to claim these dates for events we will be holding next year with more detailed individual announcements coming up later: Columbia Fall on Oct 8, Columbia Winter on December 4, and Columbia Spring on March 4th.

I would expect Livingston HS to host again next year on an NAQT IS set on its usual week, Saturday, March 18th.

We will probably be hosting our Bergen Academies Spring Quizbowl Tournament on April 8th.

Princeton University Quiz Bowl is planning on holding PHSAT whatever-number-it-is-now on 9/24. We're still in very preliminary planning stages though.

Kings Park would like to host KPAQT VII on Saturday April 1, 2017 using an A level set.

High Tech would like to provisionally claim February 25 for QuBIT III (using the Maryland Fall set as with previous years); this date may be subject to change.

The tentative date for BrainBusters Fall V at Ithaca High School is November 19. It's the same date as LIST at Kellenberg, and will probably be held on the same question set, so teams located in between upstate New York and Long Island could choose one or the other to play at. LIST's field will probably be a bit stronger, although there are a couple of out-of-the-general-area powerhouses that are considering coming up and playing BB Fall.

East Brunswick High School (NJ) is planning to host two tournaments this coming year. We will be hosting our NAQT Funfest II on February 11th using and IS set, and we will be hosting our East Brunswick Bears (EBB) Pre-Nationals Tournament on May 6th, using a Division II SCT set.

Hunter will be running our usual two tournaments, SCOP Novice in the fall and Prison Bowl X (housewrite) in the spring. The dates have not gone through the final approval process but SCOP will very probably be October 15 and Prison Bowl will very probably be March 25.

An update: Hunter's SCOP Novice tournament will actually be October 1, not October 15.

Update: KPAQT VII will have to move its yearly tournament date earlier in the year to Saturday January 7, 2017. Thank you.

NHBB's Lower Hudson tournament on C Set which drew over 50 teams last year will once again be in its usual spot - White Plains High School on Sat. December 17. I'll direct it.

We're keeping track of PA tournaments here on GPQB and will cross-list nearby NJ tournaments. Eastern PA tournaments are definitely within driving distance (if not public transit) for many NJ/NY teams.

Keep in mind too that there are likely going to be a lot of new teams this year in the area and that fields should easily fill up with local teams (if you do your outreach), so I think it would be totally fine to have an NYC area tournament the same date as a Philly area tournament. I'm using the Raritan as a dividing line for invitation purposes.

Darien, CT will be hosting an NAQT A-set on November 5.

The Middlesex County Academy in Edison, NJ is planning to host the NAQT Middle School NJ Championship on March 25, 2017.

Slight change to the above statement of East Brunswick 'EBB' pre-nats tournament, it will be using a d2ICT set instead of a d2SCT. This will mean that it's slightly harder than nationals; and will serve as good practice and study materials for HSNCT.

Cornell University is hosting a mirror of Harvard Fall Tournament XI on October 15, 2016.

Columbia's Spring Tournament has been moved to March 4th.

Quick update: PHSAT XXIV will happen on 9/24 on the Princeton campus using IS-158. This is the same set as the Smithtown West tournament, so schools from the NYC area should probably head there unless they really want to visit NJ or something. The scheduling person gets back tomorrow, so we should know exactly where on campus tomorrow as well. That's the primary reason I haven't posted anything else yet.

Just wanted to remind NY and Jersey teams that Philly is like an hour's drive and there are tournaments coming up on October 8th (novice-only at Carver HS on the PA Novice set) and October 22nd (varsity and novice at Friends Select on IS-159A). Make your own Crossing of the Delaware and come visit our tournaments!

Columbia's already using IS-166 for their spring tournament.

Ithaca High School will be hosting BrainBusters Spring on April 15, mirroring Prison Bowl.
