QuBIT III @ High Tech in Lincroft, NJ (2/25/17) [GSAC]

Postby sdk » Mon Dec 05, 2016 1:12 am

High Technology High School is pleased to announce our third annual Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament (QuBIT III), which will take place on Saturday, February 25th, 2017. We'll be mirroring the GSAC set.

QuBIT III will be held at High Technology High School, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738. Parking (free of charge) will be available in our lot, as well as that of Brookdale Community College.

On the day of the tournament, teams can register from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. The first round will start at 8:45 AM.

There will be trophies for the top four teams, as well as book prizes for the top ten scorers in the prelims.

Registration:

Registration for this tournament will only be accepted through this Google form, which will be kept open until February 22nd.

Note: our school district requests a certificate of insurance from each participating school before the day of competition. This no-cost certificate of insurance is requested through your school business office, asking your insurance company to issue a certificate indicating that the students are covered by insurance when participating at QuBIT. Further details regarding this will be sent after you register for the tournament.

Question Set:

We're mirroring the GSAC set, and more information can be found here.

Fee Structure:

$80 for the first team, $75 for each additional team. (No more than six players per team; only four players playing at any one time).
-$5 per working buzzer system, no limit.
-$10 per moderator, no limit.
Minimum fee of $50 per team.

Payment:

Make all checks out to “High Tech Student Activities Account.” We prefer payment on the day of the tournament, but if this is against your school's policy, then feel free to mail them to High Tech’s address, as listed above. If you plan mailing a check to us, have "Attention: Dr. R. Eng" on the envelope to ensure the check gets to the right place. We also accept cash. No other forms of payment will be accepted.

Food:

A complimentary breakfast of bagels and juice will be provided to all teams. For lunch, we would prefer if teams stayed on-site in order to prevent delays, but we will also distribute a list of local eateries. We will be offering pizza for sale at lunch at $12 a pie. If you would like to order, please indicate the number of pies on the Google form. Beverages will also be available for purchase at lunch.

If you have any questions about this tournament, please contact me at sakao@ctemc.org or post below.

We look forward to seeing you in February!

We've just been platinum certified by PACE! The top 25% of teams (rounded up) attending QuBIT will qualify for PACE NSC in June.

With the field over half full, keep those registrations coming!

One thing about pizza orders:

We're setting a deadline of Wednesday, February 22, for changing pizza orders (which will be at $12/pie, as noted in the above post). Additional pizza orders on Saturday morning are more than welcome, with pizza going for $15/pie at that time. We'll also be selling soda/water for $1 each during lunch.

We're expanding the field from 24 to 30 teams.

Bracketing to be updated further. This will change the bracketing for this tournament. We'll have five brackets of six teams each. The two top teams from each prelim bracket will be reorganized into two playoff brackets of five teams each, with cross-overs following the playoff rounds. The remaining teams will be reorganized into four consolation brackets of five teams each.

Given the preponderance of strong teams at this tournament, would scrimmages be possible during playoff byes?
