IHOP VI @ Irvine High School (2/4)

Post by sunahhlee »

Irvine Quiz Bowl is excited to announce its sixth annual IHOP (Irvine High Operation Pandemonium) tournament.

LOCATION: Irvine High School, 4321 Walnut Avenue, Irvine, CA 92604. The matches themselves will be held in the Humanities Building.

DATE: The tournament will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2017. Check-in will begin at 8:00 am in HLG, and the first round should begin around 9 am. Schedules and roster confirmation sheets will be available after check-in.

FORMAT: The tournament will have two separate divisions: a JV division (for new or less experienced teams) and a Varsity division (the HSNCT and PACE qualifiers). The JV division will use the NAQT IS-157A, while the Varsity division will use the NAQT IS-162. The tournament will adhere to official NAQT rules—with the exception that each round will run as two untimed, 10-question halves. The tournament will run a full round robin phase for both divisions. JV teams will play a total of 9 rounds, and Varsity teams will play a total of 11 rounds. Ties will be resolved based on points per game, followed by points per bonus.

As stated in the NAQT HSNCT (High School National Championship Tournament) qualification rules, the top 15% of the field will qualify for the 2017 HSNCT held May 26-28 in Atlanta, Georgia.

This tournament has also received the PACE gold certification, so the top 20% of the field will qualify for the 2017 PACE NSC held June 10-11 near Chicago, Illinois.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students are welcome to play in the Varsity division. Players who have attended no more than 3 decent mACF-style or NAQT tournaments are eligible to play in the JV division. New teams may compete in either divisions.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 after the first

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$5 for traveling distances over 50 miles, one-way, according to Google Maps
-$50 (new school discount) for any school that has competed in no more than 3 decent mACF-style or NAQT tournaments within the past year

Minimum fee = $60 per non-new team, $10 per new team

Please make checks payable to: Irvine High School. Please do not make checks out to any other person or entity. Checks or cash will be due at the start of the tournament during registration.

REGISTRATION: The tournament director is Sun Ah Lee. The adviser of this tournament will be Ms. Cora Peck. If you are interested in attending, sign up through this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... =send_form

Updates of the tournament will be made primarily through the SoCal Quiz Bowl Facebook group as well as this forum.

FOOD: A light breakfast will be provided in HLG. The intersection between Walnut and Culver (about a 5-10 minute walk away) has many fast food restaurants such as Subway, the Habit, Wendy's, and Bruxie.

Please send any inquiries to [email protected].

Thank you!
