TPAIN IV (SSNCT) @ Torrey Pines HS - San Diego (11/11/17)

Torrey Pines Quizbowl is pleased to announce TPAIN IV (Torrey Pines Academic INvitational), a regular-difficulty high school tournament.
DATE/TIME: TPAIN will take place on November 11th, 2017. Check-in begins at 8:00 A.M., and rounds start at 9:00 A.M. We hope to end the tournament by around 5 - 6 P.M. including finals rounds if necessary. There will be separate JV and Varsity divisions, both using the same set.
To be eligible for JV division, players must have:
- No more than two years of experience
- Never been to a National Tournament
- Won no more than three HS tournaments at the JV or Varsity level in a single academic year.
Varsity division will be the HSNCT and PACE qualifiers.
LOCATION: TPAIN will take place on the campus of Torrey Pines High School, located at 3710 Del Mar Heights Rd, San Diego, CA 92130. Room locations TBA. Logistics emails will go out a week before the tournament. A map of campus can be found here.
REGISTRATION: Sign up by filling out the following Google Form: TPAIN IV Registration Form
We will send you an email to confirm your registration after the form is filled out.
You will need to provide the following:
1) School name
2) Number of JV / Regular Division teams
3) Number of Varsity / Nationals Division teams
4) Number of buzzers
5) Number of moderators
6) Contact Email
7) Emergency contact phone number
PRICING:
$80 for first team
$70 for subsequent teams
DISCOUNTS: (subtracted from total school cost)
-$5 for each working buzzer system
-$10 for each competent moderator
-$60 for schools that have competed in 2 or less mACF / NAQT style tournament in the last year
-$5 for every 50 mi travelled, calculated using Google Maps from your school to TPHS
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Each round will be untimed rounds of 20 questions (with necessary tiebreakers). Field cap at 30 teams (5 brackets of 6 with rebracketing). The question set will be the regular-difficulty NAQT 2017 SSNCT. Top 15% of the pool will qualify for the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) held May 26-28 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Platinum Certification awarded from PACE: top 20% of teams will qualify for NSC on June 2-3
FOOD: There's a very close mall nearby with Rubio’s, Which Wich, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Panda Express, etc. 5-10 minutes walk. Light breakfast provided.
