C.E. Byrd Fall Tournament-Shreveport, LA 10/7/17 [IS-169A]

Post by sgoebel »

C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana is pleased to announce that its Fall Quiz Bowl Tournament that will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017, starting at 8:30 AM. We will be using NAQT questions and format (un-timed) for the tournament. The question set will be IS-169A. After lunch, teams will be re-bracketed, which means that every team will play until the end of the day’s competition. We plan on scheduling at least eight rounds of competition for every team that signs up.

Check-in and room assignments will begin at 8:00 am in the learning center (located on the north side of campus, near Kings Highway). The entry fee for the tournament is $60 per team. We are not offering a buzzer discount this year, but would appreciate your buzzer sets if possible. If you would like to read for the tournament, let me know. We appreciate having coaches and sponsors who would like volunteer the day of, but it is not required.

Teams may register here. You may pay the tournament fee by mailing a check payable to C. E. Byrd High School to 3201 Line Ave., Shreveport, LA, 71104 (or by bringing the check with you on the day of the competition).

PACE (the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) has awarded this tournament gold certification, which means that the top 20% of teams will qualify for the PACE-NSC. Teams in the top 15% will also qualify for NAQT's HSNCT.

There will be complimentary breakfast items served in the learning center from 8:00-8:30. Lunch will be from 12:00-1:00 pm, and I recommend selecting a quick option so that afternoon games can begin as scheduled at 1:00pm. Our school is located near a number of easily accessible locations for lunch (these are within two or three blocks of campus, and some are easy to walk to). These include Julie Anne’s café, Wendy’s, Cane’s, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell. We are located on Line Avenue, which also includes more options within a 5-minute drive.

Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions about the tournament.

Final stats are available here.

Windhaven Park B placed first in a final over Windhaven Park A. Dutchtown A beat North Caddo A to finish third. The complete stat report will be uploaded later today.

I'd like to thank all of the volunteers who helped us out - especially Jeb Houston and the Louisiana Tech quiz bowl team who were able to stay and staff the final round when other volunteers had to leave.
