Hello!

On behalf of the Louisiana Academic Team, I am pleased to announce that I will be directing the inaugural iteration of the Louisiana EARly November Tournament (LEARNT) on the sixteenth of December, 2017 (12/16/2017). We will be using IS-170 for this tournament; this set was also used at the Missouri Fall Academic Tournament, and will eventually be used by the Gateway Athletic Conference, so make sure you do not share any of these tournaments in common.

Rules/format
Games will use the standard 20 tossup/bonus format. Powers, negs, and bonus bouncebacks will be used. Math computation tossups will not be used and there will be one math computation bonus per round. As this post is mostly directed at out of state teams (I've also posted an announcement on the Missouri quizbowl forums), keep in mind that MSHSAA rules will apply at this tournament; recognition by name, deferral by name on bonuses, etc.
This tournament will serve as a qualifier for both the PACE NSC, to be held on June 2-3, 2018 in Reston, Virginia, and the NAQT SSNCT and HSNCT, to be held on April 27-29 and May 25-27, 2018, respectively.

Entry fees
First team: $70
Second, third teams (and so on): $65
Functioning buzzer system: -$5
Functioning scorekeeper: -$5
Functioning + experienced moderator: -$15
As the tournament approaches, we'll let you know if staff/buzzers are needed or not.

Registration
To register, simply e-mail [email protected] with how many teams, buzzer, and staffers you are bringing.
We're placing the initial field cap for this tournament at 18 teams. Expansion to 24 is highly unlikely, but possible.

We look forward to seeing you on December 16th!

Also note that any out of state teams interested in this tournament need to express interest as soon as possible. MSHSAA's sanctioning process to allow teams from other states requires 30 days advance notice.
