Fall Novice at LASA 9/12/09
LASA will host a mirror of the Fall Novice Tournament in Austin, TX on Saturday September 12, 2009. Since this tournament is meant to introduce new and less experienced teams to pyramidal questions, players who have participated in either NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC will not be eligible for this tournament. Players who have participated in other formats of quiz bowl, even at the national level, are eligible to participate.
The base fee will be $40 with a $10 discount for working buzzers.
The tournament will consist of a round-robin in the morning and a single elimination playoff in the afternoon to determine the winner. Rounds will consist of 20 tossup-bonus pairs with no powers or bouncebacks.
Interested teams or anyone with questions should contact LASA Quiz Bowl coach Jason Flowers at [email protected]. Field updates will be posted as teams register.

Hmm, turns out that this conflicts with an ACT test date =/
And I'm the only senior on our team not taking the ACT
And I suck at quizbowl.
I'm gonna try to get a couple of underclassmen to come to this with me. Our coach seems receptive to that. I'll try to be more definite within a week or so.

It would be especially great if you could bring underclassmen since the idea behind this tournament is to get new people who will hopefully keep Klein coming to good tournaments in the future.

Yeah, you're right. I guess TQBA events will be the first competitions for my other team members

Update on Klein: Yeah it looks like we pretty much can't come. 4 of my teammates are taking the ACT and I have a debate tournament. Don't think we have enough other members yet that we could still send a team, really sorry.

12 teams from those 7 schools came.
LASA beat Cistercian in the finals. Both were 9-1 in prelims.
I'll post stats soon.

Quick reminder that any response to this needs to be nonspecific, as there are a number of mirrors to follow. Thanks, folks.Journey to the Planets wrote:So how was the set?
Edit: If you do have specific criticisms that you think can help improve the set for those future mirrors, please contact one of the editors or overseers privately and let us know. Thanks.

Reaction to the set was generally positive. It was not without its problems (mainly repeats, some bonus variability, and minor grammar issues), but for the most part, it fulfilled its purpose. Just about every topic was canonical, significant, and accessible. The questions, while intended for low-level players, did a good job of differentiating the better teams. I don't know about the rest of Texas, but I can tell you that just about everyone at LASA would go with this over an A set any day.

You should definitely contact the editors with those issues (especially repeats), as this set can be improved before future tournaments.logicisgood wrote:Reaction to the set was generally positive.
