Alabama NAQT State Championship 4/17/2010
Hoover High School would like to announce that the state of Alabama will hold its 2009-10 NAQT championship tournament on April 17, 2010 at Hoover High School in Birmingham, AL. This will, of course, be a nationals qualifying event, and is open to any team interested in competing. Multiple teams from a single school are welcome. Entry fee for the tournament will be $65, with a single $5 discount for teams bringing buzzer sets.
Information on hotels in the area will be provided upon request. Teams should expect something on the order of five to seven preliminary rounds followed by a round-robin of the top four teams playing for the championship; this will be updated and narrowed down as a field size becomes clear.
Quiz bowl veterans who are willing to read for this event are encouraged to contact me at mr dot rutsky at gmail dot com to volunteer, or to post to this thread.
We hope to see you in April!

Re: Alabama NAQT State Championship 4/17/2010
This is a reminder that registration for the Alabama NAQT State Championship is now open. All teams are encouraged to send preliminary commitments to me or post here to indicate interest. In addition to the HS competition, there will be a JV NAQT State Champion named. JV will be open to students in grades 9-10. Students may "play up" from middle school if desired.
Cost will still be $65 per team entered, with a $5 working buzzer discount. Teams that can provide an experienced reader may also be given a discount. The format will depend on the number of teams that enter, but the current plan is for teams to play two pools, with the top four playing round-robin to determine a champion. The round robin will require that the winning school have at least a two game margin in record over the second place squad, which may necessitate an extra match.

Josh.. we will only have one varsity team... don't have enough players for another team due to a prom date that was supposed to be moved to an earlier date but wasn't

I don't know if you were counting multiple teams or not, but I should have 2 varsity and 1 JV.
Also, will the JV and Varsity fields be separate or will they play together with the top-performing JV team declared the JV Champion? Frankly, I think we have a good shot at the JV title, especially with DJ and Jacob playing so well right now. I think that we all know that - barring some amazing developments - we're playing for 2nd in the varsity division.
