Post by the third garrideb »

The University of Waterloo will be hosting a mirror of the Early Autumn Collegiate Novice tournament on Saturday, October 02 (date changed), in the Mathematics and Computer Science building (MC) room 4045. To register, please email me at [email protected] with the number of teams and buzzers sets you will be bringing.

Start time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: MC4045
Fee: $20 per team of 4 players (or, $5 per player)

Eligibility:
  1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
  2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
  3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
  4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
    1. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits).
    2. If you were ever on a playoff team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
    3. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
    4. If you have ever won any college tournament.
  5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.
Questions? Send me an email ([email protected]) and I'll get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Hey,

We had a lot of new members come out. Depending on how many stick around, we may send multiple teams to the tournament.

Hey,

I don't think we'll be able to get teams organized in time. Sorry, but we'll have to pull out.

If I may interject, the point of this tournament is that you don't have to organize much in order to play. You just need some interested people with a way to get there.

U of T meets for the first time on Thursday; will try and lure players into my van (figuratively, since I don't own a van).
I assume more peeps are coming and are just being coy with numbers?

Such is my hope. I'm waiting to hear from Guelph shortly about numbers, plus we have at least a couple of house teams.

I would like to know: how many people would be able to make it if this were pushed back a week to October 2?

Thank you to everyone who came out to this, both to staff and to play. There were impressive performances from all teams, and I hope everyone had a good time. Congratulations to Toronto for going 6-1 to win this tournament.

Final stats can be found here.
