At least a couple people from Waterloo have expressed interest in attending this, so we'll probably have one team. We can also bring a set of buzzers, and at least one staffer.

I do believe we will have a team as well, with a buzzer system. Since I suck at trash, I will most likely come and moderate.

In the absence of a TRASH regionals, you can expect at least one team from Ottawa.

RIT will likely have a team, and maybe a buzzer system.

Also, the conclusion of my game show tournament will be available for this tournament for anyone that would like to play it.

There's a real good chance we'll be bringing a team across the border for this. And if we do, I know several who would be interested in playing whatever from that game show packet that will be played.

RIT's involvement is now up in the air. The "Rally to Restore Sanity"/"March to Keep Fear Alive" may take away all of my teammates.

I'm interested in this tournament, but ACF Fall is the next week, and it's too much to travel up to McMaster for two weekends straight. If there are a lot of people from Ottawa/ RIT/ elsewhere in this position, could you guys think about moving this back to November 7th?

(I probably should have figured this out earlier. I don't know how many plans it would throw off if you changed the date at this point.)

That would be better for us, but I'm still not sure if I can get people up there. If it's just me, I don't trust my 1993 Suburban to make it back and forth to Hamilton on the same day and wouldn't be able to make it.

I'll ask everyone at practice tomorrow night.

Personally, the weekend of ACF Fall is not good for me, so if this does get moved I will have to withdraw my offer to help staff.

However, I don't think the date change should affect any of our teams.

My issue is that I have to return to Brampton for an appointment that weekend, hence I would be taking GO Transit from Brampton (actually Mississauga in this case) to Hamilton, and then negotiating my way to the McMaster campus.

Alright, so Neil Walford and I have decided to try and start our own team and so we're looking for two more. If you were planning to come solo or are currently part of a team of two, then we'd love to merge teams with you. If your team currently has 5 people, then we'll gladly take your extra player off your hands.

However, if there end up being two teams of three, we wouldn't mind breaking up our team to fill those spots either.

here's the directions copied from the jeff goldblum thread:

The tournament will be in The Michael G. DeGroote Center for Learning and Discovery.
(the same place it was last year)

MDCL is south of the student center, and is the modern building attached to the hospital by 2 bridges.

It looks like we will most likely be attending with only 2 guys, so if it makes your scheduling any easier then feel free to pair us with any other shorthanded teams or unclaimed free agents.

EDIT: Additionally, will there be any side events after TERP (notably, Nathaniel's all game-show set)?

The UWO delegation has just returned to London, and we would like to thank Alex and the rest of the McMaster group for a great tournament! Even though our team didn't win as many games as we would have liked, we all had a fantastic time. Unfortunately, the playoffs had to be cut a little short, but between having a late start, and not timing the games, that was probably an inevitability. I didn't hear who won the final between Rochester and Mac A, but congratulations to that team as well!

I'm not sure about the specifics of what happened, but unless Logan got amazingly industrious between the hours of 4 and 8 am, this set only had 12 rounds - finishing a set of that length at a reasonable hour is entirely possible, and while failing to do so is certainly possible for numerous reasons, it's far from inevitable. As for timers, every tournament but two feature untimed rounds, and that's not at all an inherent obstacle to getting through a set.

I'm certainly sorry people at this site didn't get to hear the whole set - what exactly happened?

Judging by the timestamp of Brian's "back in London" post, I'm guessing that Mac could only reserve the rooms until 6 (which has been the case before). Combined with my experience that several Canadian teams have no appreciation for making a tournament run quickly, I'm not surprised they couldn't finish 12 packets in about 7 hours of actual gameplay.

I don't think we kicked off 'til around 10 AM. We finished the first four round-robin games in between 10 AM and 1 PM, and then took a one-hour break for lunch. At 2 PM, we re-commenced, playing the five remaining round-robin games between 2 PM and I'll say around 5:45. Then the stats had to be compiled for the playoffs. Yes, Mac was losing the rooms at 6:00, but we were going to stay until someone kicked us out. However, there was some consternation from many parties about playing a three-round playoff that would, in all likelihood, take us until nearly 8:00. All the teams had drives to make, and many needed to get going for various reasons, so the playoffs were cut down to a single round. The tournament concluded around 6:40, and after thanking Alex and having the awards ceremony, UWO pulled out around 7:00. I hope that the tournament is eventually submitted to Wastebin, because I found it thoroughly enjoyable, and would like to eventually play the last two rounds.

I would also like to thank the Mac organizers (Alex Poon did a great job) and readers (it was a long day). I found it to be a very enjoyable experience.

As far as the delay goes, although there was one room which was going a little slower than the others, most were moving relatively quickly. I would attribute the temporal length of the tournament to chatter, the 1 hour lunch, and the relaxed atmosphere (we were all pretty laid-back cats at this one).

I believe the one-round final (with other page play-offs) was designed largely by request.

Anyway, looking forward to doing a similar thing with similar people soon.

Cheers,
