Science Monstrosity at Chicago
Which groups are planning to play Science Monstrosity in Chicago?
I will be playing with my teammate Susan and I know my teammate Trey is playing with Seth Teitler.

Are you guys going to send me a packet? It would be greatly helpful if you did, or at least if you get in touch with me and work something out if you're having trouble writing. Either you or Dan should contact me at jerry_v at berkeley dot edu.fjkelly6112 wrote:Dan Suzman and I will be playing together.

edit: also, Chris, are you and Susan writing? I understand that you are probably burdened with the lit tournament, but if Susan could put together a 10/10 (or anything at all) it'd be super helpful, since I can fill in the rest of the packet.

I believe Sudheer is running the Chicago mirror.Matt Weiner wrote:Uh...ok. Well anyway, since no one seems to know who is in charge of the Chicago version, I'll post here saying that I'm available to read, and if it's needed to balance the schedule, I am willing to play on a comedy terrible-at-science team.
Yes, I will be running the Science Monstrosity mirror at Chicago on Saturday night, after the completion of the Chicago Open.
I've gotten the OK from Subash to run the event, so I just need to know who wants to be involved. Even if you've already posted interest or something like that on any board, PLEASE e-mail me *as soon as possible* at ([email protected]) to let me know if you a) plan to play; b) have a buzzer system we can use; c) can moderate.
I don't know exactly what's going on with packets and such, but if Jerry could let me know by e-mail, that'd be excellent.
Any other questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me and I'll do my best to resolve any concerns.
Thanks,
--Sudheer ([email protected])

Science Monstrosity update
Hello,
It's now roughly 24 hours before the ultimate deadline I set for SM packets. I currently have 9 packets in various stages of completion, 5 written by me and 4 submitted by participating teams. I'm expecting at least one or two more packets from the field, and there are several teams that have expressed interest in playing but have not yet sent in packets. Please try to get the questions in to me by noon tomorrow since that will make my editing job somewhat easier. Assuming I get at least one more round, SM will have 10 rounds at both locations, although as many as 12 will be available if everyone I expect to submit a packet comes through.

Results and such...
The six teams that entered were:
1. Mike Sorice/Andrew Ullsperger
2. Dan Suzman/Frank Kelly
3. Chris Romero/Susan Mitchell
4. Raj Dhuwalia/Wesley Mathews
5. Seth Teitler/Trey Morris
6. Eric Kwartler
A five-game round-robin was played, after which three teams
(Sorice/Ullsperger, Suzman/Kelly, and Teitler/Morris) had one loss
apiece, resulting in a triangle of death with no head-to-head
solution for seeding. In addition, it was about 11 pm by this point
(resulting in massive fatigue) and two of the teams had submitted
packets, leaving us with only two blind packets left to use. So,
the staff and teams mutually decided to play out a three-team finals
match on the two remaining packets (40/40).
Sorice/Ullsperger played quite well at the beginning of the match,
but eventually Seth went on a tear of six or seven consecutive
tossups, handing Teitler/Morris the win and the championship by a
sizable margin.
Congratulations to Seth and Trey, and thanks to everyone who
participated and those who helped me staff, including Matt Weiner,
Dave Kiang, Chris Borglum, and Adam Bonk.
I'm not sure if Jerry's going to put the questions online or
whatnot, but if you'd like a copy of them, e-mail me at potru [at]
uiuc [dot] edu.
Thanks,
