This is the Illinois mirror of the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament, a collaboration to be written and edited by various members of the Illinois and Minnesota quiz bowl teams. Difficulty will be around that of ACF Fall, possibly swinging slightly harder.

Eligibility
This tournament is open to undergraduate students as well as high school teams.

Logistics
This tournament will be taking place in 3 buildings: the Transportation Building, Everitt Laboratory, and the Mechanical Engineering Building. An interactive map of campus (so you can see where these buildings are) is here. I have a schedule set up so that each bracket is contained entirely within a single building (so the only times you will have to walk between buildings is before round 1, before/after lunch, and after the final round). However, because of the logistical hassle that this provides, I stress that it is imperative that everyone arrive on time. I ask that everyone be at room 103 in the Transportation Building at 8:30 a.m. If you are egregiously late, we will start the tournament without you.

As for parking, there are two lots on Goodwin that are close and are free on Saturdays. They are marked B1 and B7 here

Contact me if you have any questions.

Fee Structure
Base fee: $115
Multiple team discount: -$10 per (2nd team has a base fee of $105, then 95, etc)
Buzzer discount: -$5 per system
Staffer discount: -$10 per staffer
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles one-way
Arrive on time*: -$20 per team ready to play by the start of round 1
Solo player**: -$20
Minimum Fee: $30

*If you cannot arrive on time, you can still obtain this discount if you call me before the start of the tournament (my phone number is (630)-903-8575) with an explanation as to why (I implore you to call me if you are going to be late whether or not you have a good explanation). The exact time of the tournament start is TBA, but expect something around 9 a.m.
**You are not eligible for this discount if your school is sending multiple teams to this mirror.

Contact Information
If you wish to attend this tournament, you should e-mail me, the TD, at [email protected]. Registration information should include the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you plan to bring, in addition to any other discounts you will be eligible for. Also, please include a phone number and e-mail address that you can be contacted at.

Updated note on eligibility:
Cheynem wrote: This tournament is for undergraduates. You can be any year in playing as an undergraduate as long as you are in a typical degree-earning program. By undergraduate, I am defining as "have not earned a bachelor's degree" or the equivalent of such (i.e., you can have played five years of college quizbowl and still be an undergraduate).

You can play if you are a high schooler.

You cannot play if you are not in school at all. If you graduated like in the fall, you can play--that's cool.

You cannot play on an open team. You must play for your college or educational institution (obviously if you need to "go rogue" as a high schooler that's okay). We are aware that occasionally field sizes may require some flexibility here--please contact us if this is something that needs resolved.

You cannot play if you are a graduate student. I am aware that there are occasional gray areas here, so I would urge all TD's to run any potential "question mark" eligibility cases with the MUT editors. If we determine there is a bad faith example of eligibility gaps being broken, we will not be amused.

Chicago is sending some number of teams to this. Probably 2 or 3.

UChicago might need to be changed to 3-4.

I don't know if Billy got my emails, but Team Illinois (minus Lloyd) is interested in registering for this tournament. Mike Cheyne approved it pending whatever the TD decides. We can probably get one or more buzzers.

DePauw has dropped, so there is room for one more team. E-mail me to get the spot.

Thanks to UIUC for running a great event yesterday. Being put in a position where you have to hold a tournament in three buildings is always tough, but it was well organized and there were no terrible delays throughout the day, especially because the schedule was structured in a way to prevent teams from moving between buildings. Also thanks to Minnesota and Illinois for writing a good set.

Cool. And yeah, thanks to UIUC for hosting; props on how fast and smoothly it went, especially with a sizable lunch break (no complaints there either).

The stats have been sent to Billy for posting.

In spite of the circumstances, I'd like to commend Billy for doing a good job at directing his first tournament. Some of the logistics were less than ideal, but all in all it went fairly smoothly.
