MINNESOTA OPEN V Mirror-Ottawa, Canada, January 20, 2013
Here's hoping the chilly weather is finding you all well. The UOttawa Trivia Club is proud to announce its mirror of the Minnesota Open V tournament, on the Sunday of the MLK (American) holiday, January 20, 2013. It will be cold outside, but this tournament is sure to be a scorcher!
PROS:
1. This tournament was centrally edited by Pros, and as such this tournament is high-quality AND not packet submission
2. The tournament is being hosted alongside (on Saturday) Delta Burke: so there is something for both new and experienced players
3. This is rigorous academic trivia (some might call it a "Masters Tournament"), and a good opportunity to train for other upcoming 2013 quizbowl events
4. Open Teams are allowed (you can play with your friends, not the losers who happen to go to school with you! )
5. Ice skating on the Rideau Canal, the world's longest open-air skating rink: Need I say more?
CONS:
1. There are no cons!
Details follow:
What: Minnesota Open V (Academic Quizbowl Tournament)
When: Sunday, January 20, 2012, at 9 a.m. SHARP
Where: UOttawa Campus (Building TBD-Probably Brooks Hall)

Shorthanded Team (2 players or less): $-30
Minimum Fee: $55
To register, or with any questions, please hit up: jpalm010 "at" uottawa "dot" ca. We also have a facebook event.
EDIT: Because naming the right year is apparently hard.

Actually, ever since Winnipeg opened a longer skating rink on its Forks in 2008 (albeit a very narrow one), the Rideau Canal has been rebranded as the world's largest skating rink.minusfive wrote: 5. Ice skating on the Rideau Canal, the world's longest open-air skating rink: Need I say more?

At least Matt and I will be at this weekend's events, plus perhaps some other people.
Matt and I are interested in teaming up with someone(s) who knows Lit and Social Sciences.

Yo, as of last night's practice, Mac's looking like sending 2 teams, maybe even 3. We have 8-9 people interested, we just need a way to get out to Ottawa now.

McGill will be sending a team.
Lisgar has a few players who also want to come, but they'll need teams.

The tournament will be held in LAMOREUX HALL. The individual building website is here: http://www.uottawa.ca/maps/building/lamoureux.html
The campus map of University of Ottawa (Lamoreux is code LMX) is here: http://www.uottawa.ca/maps/
Please meet on the FOURTH (4th) Floor by 8:30 a.m., as we will be starting games at 9:00 a.m. SHARP and will not be waiting for stragglers.
Parking can be found on this campus map (in .pdf format): http://www.protection.uottawa.ca/images ... AL_002.JPG
I'd recommend parking on campus, as while there is limited parking around campus (especially East of King Edward), it may not be available (it's also snow-banky and is a walk). I believe Saturday and Sunday parking should be relatively unrestricrted on most streets, however.
Looking forward to seeing you all.

Thanks to all who came out. In total, we had 6 teams today.
The tournament was won by uOttawa's house team, which defeated Brendan McKendy et al. in a hard-fought final.
