GUERRILLA?!

Post by Fond du lac operon »

Are we planning on doing a guerrilla tournament pre- or post-ICT this year? It's only a few weeks off at this point, and I'd like for people to have time to get teams together and throw together packets. (In between studying for nationals tournaments, writing? for Terrapin?!, and also non-quizbowl stuff, I mean).

If no one else is interested, I'd be happy to run it, inasmuch as one runs a guerrilla tournament, but of course I'd prefer to play. (I don't know if we're staying at the Hyatt, though, so if not I won't be able to provide rooms or anything.)

I don't think we're staying at the Hyatt, but if people want to volunteer rooms for this, that would be great. I'd also be happy to co-run it with you or run it if you want to play (if there's no one else planning on doing this already, and if it is after ICT).

I'm going to be contrarian and say this was kind of boring last year: if I'm going to play a bunch of unedited questions I'd rather they be entertaining, rather than weaker versions of questions I just heard at ICT. It also continues to be at a pretty inconvenient time. This being a guerrilla set, people are free to play and write if they wish; however, I think it would be better to do this at some other time--maybe one of the high school nationals--and allow more of the wacky theme packets from years past.

I will say that I am also in favor of wacky theme packets. (Or, you know, at least wacky questions.)

I agree last year's tournament was a bit boring. I'm on the fence about doing it again this year. I'm open to good suggestions though.
