Open online mirror of NASAT -- June 21

There will be a Skype mirror of the NASAT set on Saturday, June 21. This is open to teams comprised of any people at all who have not previously seen the questions (i.e.: both high schoolers who are not attending NASAT, and post-high-school people). Team members do not all have to play from the same location. Teams may be anywhere from 1 to 4 people.

For those who are not familiar with NASAT, its target difficulty and style is "exactly the same as ACF Regionals," so if playing such a tournament on an open basis appeals to you, this is your chance.

The tournament will start at 11 AM eastern. The fee is $60 per team, regardless of team size.

Please post here to form teams or register.

Teams:

1) Nguyen/Desai/Brownlow/Kandlikar
2) Goldman/Cole/Elliot/Vinokurov
3) Durgin/Cadungog/Whisler
4) Hankin/Teevens/Dillon/Droge
5) Dos Remedios/Amini/Rajasekaran/Zafar
6) Davis
7) Johnston/Dewan/Beeby/So
8) Minarik/Venkus/Torres
9) Wang/Busse/Zeng
10) Conder /Rangaraju/Thompson/Byrne
11) Raje/Alston/Nagari/Yetman
12) Fischer/Laird/Peterson/Jacob
13) Bentley/Grubb/Lopez-Lago/Smart
14) Huff/Patil/Punyamurtula/Kendrick
15) Karas/Gleb/Xiao/Nguy
16) Sipp/Jiao/Buetel

I think Skype limits you to 8 people on a conference call, so teams of 4 people from different locations may pose a problem for you.

Anyway, we might organize some group of people in Seattle to play.

I was able to run the game between the two 4-person teams at the CHB online mirror without problems -- the call limit is apparently 25 now.

Does this mean the NASAT matches won't be livestreamed/liveblogged with answers, as in previous years? This sounds fun, but I'm weary of shelling out $15 or more for something if we're just taking it on good faith that nobody listened/watched online.

We are looking more to recording games for posting later, as the streaming service used in past years is no longer available.

I will have the finals liveblogged and just not use that packet in the online mirror. NASAT itself has 20 packets, and online mirrors rarely use more than 12.

Well, then this is an excellent response to that streaming problem! I'd love to play.

There's a decent chance I'll want some part in this, be it as player or moderator, as that will be a few days after grades are due.

I'm mildly interested. If some conglomeration of people want to play this and need a mediocre history and current events specialist, I'm your guy.

I would like to sign up for this tournament. I plan to play it with various Canadians.

Edit: The team that I have currently put together is Cameron Amini of Colonel By, Aayush Rajasekaran of Waterloo, Waterloo alumnus Huma Zafar, and myself

I know this may cause even more delays due to this tournament being run via Skype, but would it be possible to give teams location slightly longer on bonuses, due to potential lag issues in conferring for teams that are not all playing in the same location? Not by much, just a couple extra seconds or so.

For completeness' sake the "UK" team will be me, Tris Cole, Jonathan Elliott and noted non-British person Jerry Vinokurov.

A second Canadian team consisting of University of Ottawa and McGill players has formed. If a third team does not form, there may be one or two Canadians in need of a team.

Just a reminder to keep updating your status -- if teams have formed, consolidated, or dropped out, I'd like to know, with as complete a roster as possible, so that an accurate schedule can be made and I can make sure we have enough readers. The first post is updated with everything that has been posted so far; please let me know about any further changes.

These two posts are referring to the same team. Roster currently in the process of being finalized (EDIT: see below). There won't be a third team from Eastern Canada.

EDIT: Roster: Chris Johnston, Ian Dewan, myself and Derek So. Brendan McKendy on standby if Derek can't play (possible Skype problem).
EDIT2 (Thursday evening): Roster update: Chris Johnston, Brendan McKendy, myself and Derek So.

Would anybody who expressed interest but does not have teammates like to team up? Or alternatively, anybody still need a fourth player? Ideally I'd like to play on a full team of four

It's looking very likely the 2nd Seattle team will need 2 additional players. If there's any free agents or half-teams out there that want to team up, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]. To set expectations, this 2nd team is likely going to be in the bottom quartile of teams unless joined by two strong other players.

I'm going to project an end time of 7 PM. If we stay with a number of teams similar to what we have now, we'll do two brackets followed by 2-3 crossover games and then a final as needed.
