STIMPY at Kenyon, 4/11 — packet-optional!

Post by deserto »

Kenyon College’s quiz bowl club is pleased to announce we will be hosting a mirror of STIMPY on Saturday, April 4. The global announcement for STIMPY can be found here. We hope this added location will allow teams in the Ohio/Great Lakes region to more easily play the set, one of the last regular-difficulty offerings of the year.

Logistics

The tournament location will be Ascension Hall, a big gothic building in the heart of campus. We are tentatively planning to be on the second floor; it is not handicap accessible, however, and we are happy to seek an alternative space if this poses a problem for anyone interested.

Due to potential space and staff constraints, we’re capping the field at 10 teams for now. If more than 10 teams express interest in attending, we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

We'll post parking information and other details here as we get closer to the tournament date.

Per the global announcement, “Our packet submission requirements are the same as that of ACF: ‘Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2013 is required to submit a packet.’”

Fees

Base fee: $100

Discounts:
-$10 per working set of buzzers (must include at least eight functional units that light up and make noise)
-$15 per experienced staffer
-$10 per 200 miles of one-way travel, as determined by Google Maps

Minimum fee: $65

Note that we are offering a larger-than-usual discount for staff to make the tournament run as smoothly as possible; please take advantage of it!

Payment — check or cash — is required on or before the day of the tournament. We will supply invoices upon request. Checks should be made out to Kenyon College.

Please email [email protected] to register. Be sure to include your school name and the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you plan to bring.

We've received permission from UMD to eliminate the packet-submission requirement for this mirror of STIMPY. We're also moving the tournament date to 4/11 to give teams more time to make arrangements to attend. Hope to see some of you in Gambier in three weeks!

I personally can't come, but I'll do my best to get some other CMU and Pitt folks to come to this.

Thanks to those who've registered. We look forward to a small, fun tourney on Saturday, and will email teams with more details soon. If you were thinking of registering but haven't yet, please do so ASAP. We will close the field tomorrow evening.

The field is now closed at 6 teams.

I sent a logistics email last night. If you've registered but didn't get the email, let me know.

CMU went 10-1 to win the tournament. Wright State came in second at 8-3. Final stats are here.

We removed house teams from the field to run a double round robin in the afternoon rounds.
