Geography Monstrosity 7 (May 29, Chicago)

Post by Important Bird Area »

The all-geography HSNCT side event will be returning for a seventh consecutive year, in its usual timeslot (10 pm to midnight, Friday May 29th, after the conclusion of HSNCT scrimmages).

1) Packet submission is optional (but encouraged). I will tentatively plan for five teams; please contact me if you would like to write questions for this event (partial packets and even isolated questions are ok). I will start assembling packets (from submissions and from my stockpile of outrageous geography answers) on Wednesday after HSNCT is at the printers.

2) This year's edition of GM will again feature bonuses; each packet will be 10/10.

Distribution:

2/2 North America
1/1 Latin America and the Caribbean
2/2 Europe
1/1 Asia
1/1 Africa
3/3 your choice (including: Australia/Oceania/Antarctica, minor islands, common links, fictional geography, exo- and astro-geography, and/or real social science that actual geographers study)

To register, please email me (jeff.hoppes at gmail) or post in this thread.

Obviously, I will play this. I will probably also try to wrangle some other SoCal people to play this with me, like last year.

I'll be submitting a packet for this event as well, because my stockpile of hard geo tossups grows by the day.

I can play an online mirror of this if it happens, since I'm definitely not going to be at HSNCT.

I will certainly play this of course (Raynell will too, not sure if he's checking this thread) and will write an unspecified number of questions for it (somewhere between 2/0 and a full packet, time permitting).

This set will have a Canadian mirror in July. It will also be read in the irc at some point in the next two weeks or so.

If you can't make either of those venues but would like a copy of the set, please email me.

I'm relieved that Jay didn't lose (and thus besmirch his Monstrosity title), but unrelieved that he will be playing this (I assume) at VETO.

Thanks, Jeff, for organizing this. Always one of the highlights of my year. Karan Menon (National Geo Bee champion and USGO JV National Champion) will be at this next year; we can all begin dreading being schooled by a 14 year old.
