Deep Bench @ Oxford

Post by Red Panda Cub »

So this happened.

Due to short handed teams we played a slightly modified version of the original deep bench format with squads of 6. This means in the morning there were 1st and 2nd singles and 1st and 2nd doubles, and in the afternoon teams split into A and B triples rather than quads. In the morning a win in the 1st division was worth 4 points and a win in the second was worth 3. In the afternoon a win against an A team was worth 5 and a win against a B team was worth 4.

The singles and doubles were played without bonuses using this year's HFT. The afternoon, with bonuses, used STIMPY.

Morning stats: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... 6_doubles/

1st Singles
Oxford 3-0 (12 points)
Old OUQS 2-1 (8 points)
Open 1-2 (4 points)
UK Universities 0-3 (0 points)

2nd Singles
Old OUQS 2-1 (6 points)
UK Universities 2-1 (6 points)
Open 1-2 (3 points)
Oxford 1-2 (3 points)

1st Doubles
Open 3-0 (12 points)
Oxford 2-1 (8 points)
Old OUQS 1-2 (4 points)
UK Universities 0-3 (0 points)

2nd Doubles
Open 2-1 (6 points)
Oxford 2-1 (6 points)
Old OUQS 1-2 (3 points)
UK Universities 1-2 (3 points)

So the standings after the morning:
Oxford 29 points
Open 25 points
Old OUQS 21 points
UK Universities 9

Then we reformed teams into triples for the afternoon. Stats for that are here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... s/triples/

Old OUQS A beat three A teams (15) and two B teams (8) to total 23 points.
Oxford A beat two A teams (10) and three B teams (12) to total 22 points.
Open B beat two A teams (10) and two B teams (8) to total 18 points.
Open A beat one A team (5) and three B teams (12) to total 17 points.
Oxford B beat two B teams (8) to total 8 points.
UK Universities A beat two B teams (8) to total 8 points.
Old OUQS B beat two B teams (8) to total 8 points.
UK Universities B totalled 0 points.

So afternoon standings:
Open 35 points
Old OUQS 31 points
Oxford 30 points
UK Universities 8 points

Which makes the final standings
Open 60
Oxford 59
Old OUQS 52
UK Universities 17

This makes it the second year in a row that Oxford has lost by 1 point at Deep Bench, so congratulations to the Open team for their victory.
