Susan: A SoCal NASAT Mirror (06/27/15) @ Westview HS

Post by Eddie »

Hello, friends.

I am pleased to announce Susan, an open mirror of HSAPQ's National All-Star Academic Tournament (NASAT) in Southern California this summer, 27 June 2015, on the luxurious campus of Westview High School in sunny San Diego. The tournament director for the event will be Eddie Kim. Information about the main NASAT tournament is available at this link.

DATE / TIME: The tournament will take place on Saturday, 27 June 2015. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM. The first round will begin at 9:00 AM.

ELIGIBILITY: All persons - regardless of age, level of education, or status as an active quizbowl player - are eligible to play the tournament in whatever combination of teams they choose.

FORMAT: The tournament will consist of multiple round robins approaching as close to twelve (12) rounds as possible under the time restriction. There will be a final if no team fails to clear the field with two or more wins than any other team.

Please note that the registration fee has been updated to reflect the fact that I forgot to factor in a number of other expenses. Additionally, the field is now capped at eight (8) teams.

Vincent Doehr plans to run a visual architecture side event during lunch, lasting approximately thirty (30) minutes. Here is his post about the event:
Vincent Doehr wrote: During the lunchtime of Susan, the Illusion of the Plan side tournament will be made available. The tournament consists of six slides featuring notable works of architecture and design, with the first three being in power, and the last three being normal points. The category of question will be stated on the first slide. The answer could be a country, an architect, a movement, a city, etc. There is no specific distribution, but the questions lean towards the modern period. There is no registration fee, but please place your name on the Google Doc below to indicate your desire to play, giving a rough estimate of the number of seats required.

Due to the large number of interested persons and the issue of buzzer restrictions, teams of two will now play, each with one buzzer. However, individual points will still be recorded and should be, for the most part, accurate.

Congratulations to Im Tempo eines gemächlichen Ländlers. Etwas täppisch und sehr derb, who defeated The Know Nothings in a one-game advantaged final (340 - 165)! Image took third place.

Thanks to all teams for coming. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the intended twelve- or thirteen-game format, but we did manage to complete a cool ten-game format. If you have any questions or comments about the set, please request access to the private discussion forum under "User Control Panel," and then "Usergroups."
