MYSTERIUM - Skype Mirror - 5/7/16

Post by Mike Bentley »

The Quizbowl Team at the University of Washington will be hosting a Skype mirror of MYSTERIUM on Saturday, May 7th, 2016.

This tournament will be open to anyone, although I reserve the right to veto any super teams. I'm also going to set an initial field cap at 8 teams. We may expand this if there's sufficient interest and moderators available. Also, you should make all reasonable efforts to play an in-person version of this tournament if one exists near you rather than this Skype one.

Entry fee is $80 per team. We'll offer a $20 discount to any teams who bring along a moderator.

The tournament will start around 11 AM eastern time since there are people playing on the West Coast. These tournaments take longer than in-person tournaments, so expect even an 8 or 10 round tournament to go pretty late in the day (probably like 9 PM).

Teams can be composed of people in up to 4 different locations, although I'd prefer if people who live in the same general area share a computer to make things easier.

I'll post more logistical details as we get closer to the date.

To register, e-mail me at [email protected].

Current Field (as of 5/3/16):
University of Washington
Louisiana Tech
CMU
Mike C./Gautam/Kenji

Free agents:

There doesn't seem to be a "West Coast" mirror, so I'm going to see if anyone else from UC Davis would be interested in driving up to Washington for the tournament. Do you have a preferred date by which teams should register?

We're changing this to be a Skype mirror. Initial post has been updated to reflect this.

Wonder Mike Cheyne and Master Geeautam are now looking for a Big Bank Hank to dominate the Sugarhill Gang distribution.

Ok, it looks like we have 4 teams in place for this, so I'm going to cap the field and we'll play a triple round robin. If two separate teams sign up tomorrow we'll expand to 6 teams, otherwise we'll stay at 4. Daniel, the remaining free agent, will presumably go to the other free agent team (although if CMU or Louisiana Tech teams have an extra slot, let me know).

The Louisiana Tech team appears to have transitioned into a team of Nick Collins + Caleb Kendrick + Victor Prieto* + potential future teammate

Oh hey, I'm a little late to the party, but I'd like to volunteer myself as a potential moderator or player.

One of our moderators dropped. If anyone's interested in taking up the slack, let me know. That would be much appreciated. I'm willing to pay anyone who helps out a modest fee for their time.

The UW, Louisiana Tech and Cheyne teams tied at the end of the tournament. The latter two had higher PPG so they played a final, which was won by Louisiana Tech. Stats are here: http://neg5.org/t/VkxrdhOEbZ/stats/team?phase=1

Thanks everyone for coming, and thanks especially to Ophir, Hidehiro, Sam and Alejandro for moderating.

This was a lot of fun aside from the delays that always appear during such online tournaments through no fault of anyone.
