MUT at Minnesota -- 04/23/2016

Post by Muriel Axon »

The University of Minnesota Quiz Bowl Team will be hosting a 2016 mirror of the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament (MUT) on April 23, 2016. MUT is a below-regular difficulty tournament. Only undergraduate and high school teams are allowed to play. You can read about the set here or see the DB listing for the mirror here.

The tournament will be held in Blegen Hall on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus starting at 9:00 AM, though we request that teams arrive to 105 Blegen by 8:30. The fee structure is as follows:

Base fee: $120; minimum of $35
Discounts:
Staffers: -$10
Working buzzers: -$5
Travel to UMN: -$10 per 200 miles one-way (up to 2)
New to MUT (haven't played in the last 5 years): -$20

Registration emails should include your school's number of teams, staffers, and buzzers, as well as a phone number where I can reach someone on your team during the day of the tournament. Teams can have up to six people; if you have more than six, we encourage you to register a second team. If your team wants to play, but the cost is a burden, let us know and we might be able to work something out.

Field:
Minnesota (X)
Carleton (1)
St. Olaf (1)
Iowa State (1)
Augustana (1)
St. Thomas (1)
Wisconsin (1)

We will be playing the FTP trash event written by Harris Bunker from Michigan State afterwards. Cost is $5 a person. The winner receives a DVD that is a double feature of The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms and Them!

Format to be determined

After two last-minute drops from St. Thomas and St. Olaf (FOR SHAME), we ran a double round-robin with the six remaining teams. Minnesota A (Jason Asher and friends) cleared the field. Carleton came second. Thanks for coming!
