EFT Mirror: University of Chicago (10/6/07)

Post by Demonic Leftovers »

The University of Chicago is hosting the Midwest region mirror of this year's Early Fall Tournament 2 on October 6th, 2007. I am David Seal and I am the tournament director. This tournament is being written by Jerry Vinokourov, Eric Mukherjee and Dennis Jang. The tournament is designed to be accessible to newer players and we encourage teams to send them. This tournament is open to graduate students.
Fee schedule:
Base fee: $100 Per team
Buzzer discount: -$5 each
Travel discount: -$10 for every 200 miles traveled
Minimum fee: $60

The tournament is being held in Harper Library (where we usually hold our tournaments) and registration will begin at 8:30, with play starting around 9-9:30.

We are placing a cap of 16 teams for this tournament due to the space we have available.

If you would like to register (or have a question) please email me at [email protected], and include your school, and the number of teams and buzzers that you can bring.

Thank You

A quick update.
The field currently stands as such:
Michigan- Two Teams
Lawrence- One Team
Carleton- One or Two Teams
UIC- One Team
Illinois- Two or Three teams
As for Chicago we'll have at least one team and I expect to have more, but I won't know until shortly before the tournament.
If we do have more than sixteen teams interested in playing it may be possible to reserve more rooms so the cap of sixteen is not definite.

We have enough buzzers confirmed for the tournament and I still expect to be able to staff the tournament in-house.

I am currently planning on supplying breakfast (donuts and juice) and lunch (Pizza and Soda).

Due to the large number of teams that are coming to this tournament I think the Universty of Chicago quiz bowl team will not be able to staff this in house as was previously believed. Therefore I am requesting that we would like for other teams to bring staff. We will offer a ten dollar discount for each competent staffer that a team brings. If you can bring any staff please email me.

I think a very conservative goal would be to get more wins than the football team at this tourney :-P

I won't be there .... I flipped a coin earlier to decide.

Ouch. But on a more serious note, sorry to have to do this, but only 5 people showed up this afternoon to the motorpool... so... Michigan's only sending one team. I know what a pain that is, but I thought I'd give you a heads-up.

I liked this tournament. Pizza was good, questions were awesome, moderators were nice, competition was pretty good. Cold soda would have made it optimal, but it was excellent anyway.

GREAT TOURNAMENT!!!!!!

Post by goodjobindian »

EFT was the best tournament I have ever attended, solely though the efforts of David Seal. Never have I seen a tournament so well-run, well-victualed, and attractively staffed. Especially David. JESUS CHRIST. WHAT A SWEET SWEET ASS!!!!! I'm almost glad he got his head shaved because it highlights his curvaceousness (what a badonkadonk, amirite???). And he's so competent!! BANG BANG BOOM!

Hey,

I couldn't help but notice that for the prelims, you have Illinois A and Minnesota B playing each other, with a win for them and a loss for us. I don't seem to recall that game ever happening. Sorry to nitpick!

Trygve

EDIT: Also, in the playoffs, I think you're missing our game against Lawrence.

Yes, that's Tim Hartman, late of Illinois and Brown. I think someone mentioned that he claimed he now goes to "Malcolm X University?"

A fine educational institution?

Edit: Also yeah, that first prelim game for us against UIUC A was actually our first playoff game, which is recorded correctly.

As has already been said, the Illinois A vs. Minnesota B game is double reported. It was a playoff game, but it also appears on the prelim stats (we played 7 prelim games and 4 playoff for 11 in total)

It has recently been brought to my attention that this is incorrect and Tim is, in fact, teaching at Morton. Sorry about that.
