Announcement: Illinois Open Literature subject tournament

Post by theMoMA » Thu Sep 27, 2007 5:01 pm

Hey everyone, here's the semi-official announcement for IO Lit. From what Trygve tells me, this tournament will probably happen on Sunday, 11/11, and registration will be between 9 and 10 (most likely). Once I know more specifics about the time and place of the event I'll post a followup here.

There will be 12 rounds to this tournament, 20 tossups and no bonuses, with a very similar geographic and chronological distribution to CO lit. The difficulty will be higher than CO lit, but a solid majority of the distribution is still dedicated to extremely accessible answers.

The tournament is almost certainly going to be doubles, as almost everyone I've talked to prefers that format. The tournament format itself will be similar to CO lit (round robin followed by playoff brackets, unless that is rendered impractical by the number of teams).

Since most of the experienced players are going to want to form competitive teams with each other, and that can sometimes discourage younger players from entering the field, I'm also going to allow freshmen and sophomores who want to play this event to form teams of three, for the price of two.

The entry fee will be $15 per person on teams of two, $10 per person on underclassmen teams of three.

If you want to play, please post here and send an email to limozeen@gmail.com so I have your address. Include whether you've already formed a doubles/triples team or if you are looking for a teammate. If you are goodhearted enough to moderate, please post here and email me as well.

Yes. So far, I have Rom registered. Please drop me a line or post in this thread if you're planning to come to this tournament so I can schedule things. Thanks.

Six teams played. Jonathan Magin won playing with Rom Masrour, and Jonathan was also the top scorer.

Thanks for making this a fun tournament. Stats are online here.

Was Magin as insane as the stats suggest? Also, congrats to ROM on his first title.

The room that I scorekept in was dominated by Magin except for his first match. I guess he needed a round to figure out that it was a lit tourney and then pwn all.

Yeah, a great field and he still had outdid any other team by 50%. Its obvious now why Chris Ray wants to be his BFF.
