EFT 3 Mirror at Vandy

Post by Manyo2 »

This is the official announcement for Vanderbilt's mirror of the Early Fall Tournament 3, to be held on October 11, 2008. This event promises to be a solid, accessible tournament especially geared toward newer players. In keeping with other sites, here is the fee schedule:

$100 base fee per team
-$5 per working buzzer system
-$10 per full-time moderator/scorekeeper
-$10 per 200 miles traveled
Minimum fee per team: $60

The tournament will be held in Buttrick Hall, the same building we used for EFT last year and ACF nats in 07. We'll start check-in at 9:00 with games starting around 9:30. Further details, directions, etc. will be posted/emailed later. If you would like to register or have questions, email me at [email protected]

Will you accept open teams and/or high school teams?

I might be interested in coming and competing with some Athens State Alumni. Also, I might like to bring my high school team since we can't make it to your tournament on the 31st.

This is Jack's decision, but my own thoughts are that since this tournament is designed for newer players, HS teams would be ok, but masters teams probably don't belong, unless it would make for a big improvement in the scheduling or something. If there are extra packets, though, I might enjoy a couple open scrimmage rounds or something.

If a hs team wants to come, we'd love to have them. As far as open teams, I would agree with Matt on the whole newer players idea, so open teams probably wouldn't be a good idea unless we need one in order to make a round robin even out or something.

Lee: I think Charlie is taking open teams for the MO mirror he's hosting, if you were looking for a venue in which to play.

Mr. Hartz-

The team from Georgia Perimeter College wishes to attend this event. However, I did not get a response from you on a request for invoice sent to your e-mail address listed in the original post.

Could you please e-mail me so that we can get in touch about billing and for any e-mail updates about this event.

Thanks.

So apparently, after a tentative head-count, we have enough interest to bring 5 teams to this.

Wow, that's a lot of people making a serious trek from Ann Arbor to Nashville.

We've just been slowly rebuilding, making sure that anyone who wants to play feels welcome to play both in practice and at tournaments. At the beginning of last year, we had three returning members; this year, the number was more like 12, and I fully expect it to grow.

The biggest reasons we can get lots of people to go to Vandy are (a) the CMU-Vandy combination is a lot easier than the Iowa-UIUC combination for FEUERBACH and EFT, (b) who doesn't want to go to Nashville (especially with winter fast approaching in Michigan)?, and (c) we have, like, a whole bunch of students here in general. Convincing 20 people to take a (mostly) free trip to Nashville to play a game isn't as hard when you have 20,000 people to choose from.

Field for EFT as of 9/30:

Definite:
Alabama-2 Teams
Bevil State CC-2 Teams
Georgia Perimeter 1-2 teams
Michigan-5 teams
Northeast Alabama CC-1 Team

There is also the possibility of a house team if readers permit and scheduling isn't impacted negatively

Jack,

Tulane would like to send two teams if it isn't too late, but an e-mail to the address listed in the first message went unreturned. Please let me know if we can attend so I can pass along the info to my teammates. My e-mail is kmarshal at tulane dot edu.

Link to standings

I was actually out of town this weekend, but above is the link to standings from the SQBS file they sent me (we haven't found a new webmaster yet). Let me know if there are any noteworthy errors.
