I'm disappointed that despite the overwhelming support for not having Friday rounds, NAQT has still chosen to preliminarily select the Friday/Saturday format for its tournament.

If the Friday/Saturday format is selected, Harvard will almost certainly be short a player, so I'm disappointed too!

I really, really encourage the move to a Saturday-only event. The choice of Chicago is a good one in terms of accessibility.

From a logistical standpoint, wouldn't NAQT have better luck getting their top choice of moderators if there was a Saturday only tournament? Even locally, asking free staff to be there at 5 seems like a lot of people would need to say no in favor of staying at work until 5 and not navigating rush hour traffic. People who have full time jobs that are being flown in seem like they would be that much more likely to not staff if they need to add in all that flying time after they get out of work. Would not a Saturday only tournament minimize potential conflicts staffers have and make the tournament run that much more optimally on NAQT's end?

As someone who will mod only if it's a Saturday tournament... yes, I'm pretty sure this is true.

Well, I'm an NAQT vice president and I'm teaching a Friday afternoon class this semester... so consider the logistical argument ratified.

Right now we don't know if we can get rooms for Saturday night.

We're going to survey everyone who qualified for ICT as to their schedule preferences so we can plan for 2011. (The likely choices being: long Saturday or Saturday/Sunday? about which there seemed to be no clear consensus.)

If it's "this hotel, Friday/Saturday, I'm in Boston" or "standing on my head, gagging at the smell of the Motel 6 NAQT procured last-minute for all day Saturday," I choose the latter.

I thought I'd get away from Chicago once I got out of High School. Although we'll still be happy to go to ICT if we make it.

Chalk me up as another player on a (good) team that will have to miss rounds on Friday. ICT happens during our examination period and exams are something we cannot get out of, especially not for "quiz bowl". I may not even be the only person on my team with this problem.

With that having been said, when do the actual games start on Friday? I would assume 5pm is check-in and registration time rather than the start of play.

On the pattern of past ICTs, such a schedule would be registration at 5, play from 7-10

I see that some bids are now up on NAQT's site (just the autobids). Because I always found it confusing to navigate the site to them, I'll post direct links here:

When I try to register a B team for UMN, I get this message:
You are not permitted to edit the registration data for this team. Only a coach, administrator, or club president from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities or the tournament host may do so.
What am I supposed to do?

If a school sends more than one team, does the $350 base fee apply to both teams, or do you pay another $350 for the second team?

Thank you Mike for having podcasts up again of ICT, it is a nice end to several years of absence of NAQT ICT rounds being recorded. Though I think in the last few years since College Park, there may be a few out there, maybe the finals.
