Sunol Glen's middle school tournament (11/20/16, Sunol, CA)

Post by Important Bird Area »

The Northern California Quiz Bowl Alliance and Sunol Glen School are pleased to announce that Sunol Glen will host its second middle school quizbowl tournament on Sunday, November 20th, 2016.

Location: This tournament will take place at Sunol Glen School, Sunol, California.

Questions: We will be using NAQT Middle School Series #20. (For practice material similar to the questions we will use at the tournament, please consider the NAQT New Middle School Package.)

The top 15% of teams will qualify for the 2017 NAQT Middle School National Championship Tournament, to be held in Dallas, Texas, on May 13-14, 2017.

Eligibility: All middle schools (public, private, charter, religious, homeschool, etc.) are eligible to play in this event. This tournament is open to any players who have not yet completed 8th grade, though the questions are targeted at 7th and 8th graders.

Schools are encouraged to enter multiple teams, but please note that players must play for the same team throughout the tournament.

Fees:

Base fee: $60 per team

-$10 second or subsequent team from the same school

-$10 working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)

-$20 experienced moderator

-$10 scorekeeper (We will hold a brief training session during check-in for those volunteers who have never kept score before.)

Sunol Glen is about 20 minutes away from the nearest lunch venues. We will once again be offering the teams the option of pre-ordering lunch from our hosts; please consider either using this option or packing lunch for your team.

Payment will be taken at check-in on November 20th. Please make checks out to Sunol Glen School.

How to register: please contact the tournament director, Jeff Hoppes ([email protected]), on or before Tuesday, November 15th, indicating how many teams, buzzers, and staff your school plans to bring.

Congratulations to the Pi-oneers, who defeated BASIS Independent Silicon Valley 360-295 in a one-game final to win Sunol Glen's middle school tournament! Both finalists and our third place teams from Fallon and Stratford-Sunnyvale have qualified for MSNCT in Dallas.

Complete team and individual statistics are here.

My thanks to our hosts from Sunol Glen, and to all the moderators and scorekeepers who made this tournament possible! We look forward to seeing everyone at our next middle school tournament, Saturday January 7th at Stratford.
