Doing Well at MSNCT

Post by karstenontheshore »

Hi everyone!
I'm Karsten Rynearson, captain of GFA MS, and I'm wondering about how to improve my team/myself in the months before MSNCT. We're a small program (4 players) that generally puts up 24-25 PPB. To give you some stats, here's our most recent (and only) tournament playing as a team: https://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament/t ... _id=133540 We want to improve on several subjects and on avoiding negging. Since our other three players are new to Quiz Bowl, I also want to work on making them specialists. Finally, we want to be able to cooperate more as a team. We also are wondering about which sets we should play, though we have a few recent sets from NAQT. We want to go 7-1 or higher and be T-5 to T-1. Obviously, this is very ambitious, but that's why we're asking for ideas on how to improve. Anyway, just throwing this out there.

ITT, a player scoring 166 PPG wants tips on how to improve.

Hmmmm.... OK, I'll say you definitely want to identify the areas of the NAQT distribution that don't appeal to you and get your three teammates to focus on those. With regards to negging, I'm of the opinion that if you're not negging, you're not being aggressive enough. A 73% power rate is sick; good enough to win MSNCT right there, IMO. Best of luck in Chicago.

IS-A Sets and other high school novice sets (but not FONS) are usually helpful to teams preparing for the MSNCT.
