Rancho Bernardo Quizbowl is pleased to announce our first ever “Bronco Bowl Jr.” on February 16, 2019, a middle school quizbowl tournament using the MS-29 set.

Location: This tournament will take place at Rancho Bernardo High School @ 13010 Paseo Lucido, San Diego CA 92128. Check-in will be outside room 303. Teams may enter through both the front and back gate. A map of our campus can be found here.

Date: The tournament will take place on February 16, 2019. Check-in will begin at 8AM and the first round will start promptly at 9AM.

Registration: Teams must register through the NAQT website. The most up to date field can be found there as well. After registration, a confirmation email will be sent out. Tournament fees should be paid at the tournament with cash or check. Please make checks out to Rancho Bernardo Quizbowl. Registration will open on November 12, 2018. Registration will close on February 9, 2019. Please submit rosters by February 12, 2019. There will be an 24 team field cap, and until further notice, schools may bring a maximum of 4 teams each. To register multiple teams, please finish registering your A team, and then click "Register another team." All other teams will be waitlisted.

Eligibility
San Diego City Academic League staffers are ineligible for this tournament.
All middle school students are eligible to compete.
Teams placing in the top 15% of the field will qualify for NAQT's MSNCT 2019.

Pricing:
Team 1: $90
Team 2+: $80

Discounts:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$5 for traveling distances over 50 miles, one-way, according to Google Maps
-$10 for each competent moderator that also provides their own laptop (Seek tournament director approval prior to registration)
-$10 for registering between January 1, 2019 and January 26, 2019
-$20 for registering between November 12, 2018 and December 31, 2018
-$50 (new school discount) for any school composed entirely of students that have not competed at a pyramidal quiz bowl tournament prior to the 2018–19 school year

Minimum fee: $40

Food: A light breakfast will be provided. For lunch, many eateries can be found within a 15-30 minute walk (Costco, In-In-Out, Panda Express, Rubios, etc). Pizza will be provided to all staffers.

Format: A round-robin preliminary in the morning will be followed by a round-robin playoff in the afternoon. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties across brackets will be broken by average points per bonus and ties within brackets will be broken by average points per game. Standard NAQT/ACF rules will be followed with each untimed half consisting of 10 questions.

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to both top teams and top individual scorers.
