ACE is coordinating the “National History Fair” a four-day event in June, which includes, among other activities, the National History Bee's middle school division championships.
It may well be the largest academic competition event in history (over 1200 participating students and 4000 spectators!) and we certainly can't run it without help from experienced and generous volunteers in the quizbowl community. We've found that high school quizbowl coaches make some of the best moderators.
We understand that this is “championship season” and that many community members are busy staffing and competing in several summer events. Your contributions cannot be over-appreciated. This event will (hopefully) convince hundreds of middle school students to stick with academic competition for years to come. We hope you consider volunteering one more extended weekend during your summer calendar to aid in that mission.
All of the details can be found below, but please don't hesitate to reach me at nick <@> aceqb.com with any questions you might have.
Event Schedule: The National History Fair runs from noon on Thursday (June 9th) to noon on Sunday (June 12th). Each day of the event is broken into “blocks”: Morning (8am-12am), Afternoon (1pm-5pm), and Evening (6pm-10pm). Committing to staff the event means that you agree to staff 2/3 of the blocks for which you’re in Chicago. Free time can be spent perusing the other National History Fair activities, enjoying the sights and sounds of Chicago, or anything else you might want to do. Staffers must arrive no later than noon on Friday, June 10th.
Hotel Information: The entire event will be held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, IL (within walking distance of Chicago’s rail system) and the connected convention center. All staffers will be provided their own hotel room for any night they are in Chicago. (If you’re staffing with family/friends, we do ask that you share a double-bed room).
Travel/Food: You can either travel via land (drive, public transit) which we would reimburse in Chicago OR we can book you a plane ticket. All meals will be provided.
Come be a part of something special.
If you’re interested in staffing, please fill out this application form.
