Please post your favorite quizbowl photos below. They can be your favorites for whatever reason: marking a momentous occasion, sheer amusement, or even horror.

I'm suspending the normal rules against image posting in this thread with four caveats:

(1) Keep the photos fairly normal-sized
(2) One photo per post
(3) Please include some text describing the photo and its context
(4) If you quote a post, don't quote the photo (only text)

Here's an example:

Image

This instant classic, apparently taken by Andrew Wang after ACF Nationals 2014, shows Aaron Rosenberg with some kind of stuffed raptor on his head. This picture is great for obvious reasons, not least of which is the composition: the vertical framing effect of the chrome bar on the right and the contrast between the blue bus interior and the yellow construction equipment are particularly pleasing.

The last open/exhibition team to ever play ACF Nationals: Ted Gioia, myself, Rom Masrour, and Ylaine from MIT. This was the 2008 ACF Nats at Brandeis (the Pomeranchuk Cooling ACF Nats, I believe).

EDITED: Rob Carson captures Jonathan Magin glowering, perhaps aware that Steve Feldman is forming bunny ears behind his head.

The Pre-1980 team history section of the UChicago quizbowl team has a few old-tyme pictures.

The following picture of the 2008-2009 Harvard quizbowl team appeared in the Boston Globe. What I've found most striking about this picture is how it appears that Adam Hallowell is either the primary source of light, or is in the process of either being abducted by aliens or ascending to a higher plane of existance. Also in the back row you can see future ICT and ACF Nationals champion Dennis Loo, then serving as our team coach. (Everyone else in the picture is, notably, no longer an ICT champion of any kind).

It's Steve Feldman! I took that picture.

Perhaps the most iconic quizbowl photo ever taken, Lily Vonderheide's genre scene shows various Chicago luminaries, including Michael Arnold and Steve Katz, conversing at Cardinal Classic 2008, at the exact moment that Chris Ray barges into the frame.

Eric Mukherjee can't take any more of this shit at ACF Nationals. This isn't meant to mock Eric (well, a little bit, I guess), but just to show the panoply of human emotions that appears at high impact tournaments. I'm just fortunate that nobody (yet) has photographed me at some tournaments.

This photo, originally titled LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, depicts an aislefull of quizbowl's greatest heroes and villains as they converse (from left to right, Hannah Kirsch, Matt Jackson, Auroni Gupta, Ike Jose, Ted Gioia; seated: Guy Tabachnick, Andy Watkins). Critics have pointed to obvious compositional similarities between the poses of Ike Jose and David's Socrates.

Note also the pose of Matt Jackson, an obvious allusion to the seated damned man of Michelangelo's Last Judgement. The photo depicts a bewildering dynamism of movement, and scholars continue to debate the ultimate meaning of this enigmatic and curious work.

The Minnesota team shows off its huge piles of ACF Nats 2008 swag (UG and DII trophies and book prizes, scoring prizes, best packet prizes). This may not be apparently obvious to you, the casual viewer, but for reasons unknown Bernadette brought that lamp from elsewhere in the room to hold up behind us.

(Fun fact: this was taken at a Waltham-area Wendy's after ACF Nats 2008, to which I got a ride in Matt Keller's sweet rental Mustang.)

George took this of Rob Carson; I think he was smitten by our handsome mod.

Fun fact: I need to be more quiet, otherwise things like people overhearing me say shit like, "Rob Carson is too attractive for me to have a crush on" tend to happen at a pretty high frequency.

Yay! Tracy embarrasses herself again! — with Rob Carson.

Also, if you're friends with Seth on facebook, check out the recent photo of him with a baby. Since it's not qb related, I didn't post it here. Also I don't like disseminating images of kids without permission.

Ah, he still had the yellow backpack at that point, did he? Anyway that room looks just like the practice room we used to have at Berkeley.
