Duke University Quizbowl is once again hosting ACF Novice on September 17th, 2011. We welcome all team who meet the eligbility requirements to attend our tournament. We hope to guarantee at least 7 games. Tournament structure will be probably consist of an initial round robin followed by rebracketing into playoff round robins. Further details will be available as we approach the tournament date.

Location: Biological Science Building at Duke's West Campus ROOM 111 (to the left when you enter through the front door).
Start Time: 10:00AM; Registration starts at 9:30AM.
Cost: $15 per player, with $5 discount for buzzer(s).

Eligibility:
1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.

2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.

3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.

4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:

i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.

ii. If you were ever on a playoff or top-bracket team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.

iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.

I see that the date has been changed in the announcement, but in case anyone missed it, the Duke novice event is now going to be on September 17th.

Updates:

Field:
Liberty: 1 team
USC: 1 team
House: 1 team
UNC: 1-2 teams (still waiting to hear back)

At this point, it looks like we'll probably do a double round-robin, with the overall top 2 teams taking home book prizes
