MUT @ Illinois (4/19)

Post by touchpack »

This is the announcement for the Illinois mirror of the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament. The goal for the difficulty is as follows:
The difficulty of MUT 2014 will be similar to that of MUT 2013, with (ideally) some of the difficulty spikes evened out. The goal is to provide something

along the lines of past EFTs or MFT 2013--harder than ACF Fall, especially in the early clues and hard bonus parts, but below regular difficulty.
Information

This tournament will be held in Lincoln Hall. For those of you that were at DRAGOON, Lincoln Hall is one building north of Gregory Hall (where DRAGOON was held). Here is a full interactive map of campus with building search. It's also building number 27 on this map. I recommend parking in lot E3 on that map, which is free on weekends.

Fee Structure

Base fee: $120 per team
Buzzer discount: -$5 per functional buzzer system
Staffer discount: -$20 per staffer, plus free pizza lunch for the individual staffing, should they desire it.
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles one-way on Google Maps

If for some reason you're playing this tournament with money out of your pocket (such as a high school having to go under psuedonyms), contact me via e-mail and we'll negotiate further discounts.

Registration

To register for this tournament, you must e-mail me ([email protected]) with the following information:

-The number of teams, buzzer systems, and staffers you are bringing.
-A contact phone number for the day of the tournament.

Field

NIU x 1
Panda Express x 1
WUSTL x 1
Lincoln Land x 2
St Charles x 1
Mizzou x 1
Lawrence x 2
UIC x 1
Chicago x 1
Truman State x 1
Notre Dame x 1
Louisville x 2
Northwestern x 1

Total: 16

The field is closed.

We'll be coming. I'll make sure Houston emails you once we get a head count, Billy.

EDIT: It looks like we won't be coming, actually. A lot of people are either out of town or burnt out.

Is the field in the OP final? Your Facebook message to me seems to indicate that you got my e-mail and that we're in the field, but the OP seems to indicate otherwise. You should let me know either way so I don't drive us 2.5 hours to a tournament we aren't actually in the field for.

If we are in, I also need an information e-mail.

Edit: I can't do basic math and we're dropping the house team

On the bright side, UIUC won't have to deploy their house team if a team doesn't show up and they do.

Stats are posted here. Note that in the combined stats, Panda Express is listed as 4th, but they actually took 2nd. This is because one of their prelims losses was to a team that did not make the top bracket, and thus did not carry over.

From what I understand, he had been staffing and finished his duties in time to sub in for the last half of the final between Panda Express and Chicago.

He powered the last TU to clinch it for Chicago, it was quite thrilling.

I believe this can also be remedied by switching a couple of tags in the HTML document, but that is a minor issue, along with the extra tossup attributed to me in the Louisville game.
