VCU Novice at University of Kentucky (9/26/2015)

Post by TylerReid »

The University of Kentucky will be hosting a mirror of VCU Novice on Saturday, September 26, 2015 on our campus in Lexington, Kentucky. The tournament will begin at 10 AM in the White Hall Classroom Building, with registration running from 9:00 AM to 10 AM. We hope to conclude the tournament by 5 PM.

Entry Fees / Discounts:
$15 base fee per person
-$2 per player per fully functioning buzzer system
-$3 per player per 100 miles traveled (one way)
-$4 per player if your college did not attend any tournaments in the 2014-2015 school year
Minimum fee: $6 per player

If your team expects to have financial difficulties, please let us know. We're more than happy to work something out with you.

Eligibility Rules:
  1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
  2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
  3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
  4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
    1. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.
    2. If you have ever finished in the top 20 in scoring at PACE NSC or top 35 in scoring at NAQT HSNCT, or played on a team that finished in the top 16 at NSC or t-21 at HSNCT.
    3. If you ever lead a team in scoring that made it beyond the first round of the HSNCT playoffs, or lead a team in scoring that made the top playoff bracket of NSC [the last two years, this has been the top 24 teams].
    4. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
    5. If you have ever won any college tournament.
  5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.
  6. Even if one of the rule 4 categories applies to you, you may still be able to play! Email Cody Voight at [email protected] to apply for special dispensation. To apply: 1) state which of the rule 4 points would render you otherwise ineligible; 2) list when and how you achieved any of the accomplishments that led to your being otherwise ineligible; and 3) state succinctly why you want to play.
If you have any questions or would like to register, please email us at [email protected].

Thanks to everyone for attending UK's mirror of VCU Novice today! Congratulations to Ohio State for going undefeated after having car trouble to finish in 1st place, as well as to Louisville A for finishing in 2nd. Aakash Singh from OSU was our leading scorer with 75 ppg and Michael Riggs from Kentucky A came in 2nd with 63.33 ppg. You can find full stats here.
