2016 ACF Fall Great Lakes at Northwestern (11/5)

Post by Harpie's Feather Duster »

Hello!

I am pleased to announce the Great Lakes site of ACF Fall 2016, to be held at Northwestern University on Saturday, 5 November 2016. ACF Fall is the year's premier introductory-level collegiate quizbowl tournament, and we do hope that you join us at this event. This year's Great Lakes Mirror will be held in the newly refurbished Kresge Hall on the school's Evanston campus.

Registration
Registration for this event has two steps:
First, please write to us at [email protected] with team name, number, and buzzer/staffer information.
Second, fill out the central ACF Fall registration form at this site with all relevant information.

Fees
ACF is currently debating a slight restructuring of its fee schedule. The final fee schedule will be announced by 1 September 2016. Teams can expect the base fee to increase by ~10%.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least two people on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2015 is required to submit a packet. High school players are exempt from this definition, are not permitted to submit packets, and pay fees as determined by their site hosts.

Half-packet templates will be sent out to your team after you have submitted the registration form. If you have questions on the submission guidelines, email them to [email protected] and they’ll clarify.

Please submit packets to [email protected] and use “ACF Fall 2016: [Team Name]” in the subject line.

Submission schedule
The submission schedule is as follows:

11.59 PM PST September 10: -$30
11.59 PM PST September 24: -$15 (-$30 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 8: no penalty (-$15 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 15: +$25
11.59 PM PST October 22: +$50
After October 22: +$10/day until October 29; teams who are required to submit a packet and do not submit one by November 1 will not be allowed to play.

Payment
Payment for ACF Fall will be processed through the ACF treasurer, Gautam Kandlikar. He will get in touch with you about how much your team owes, how to pay for the tournament, etc. Please contact Gautam at [email protected] with any questions regarding payment.

Note Regarding Highschool Teams
High school teams are no longer allowed to compete in Collegiate ACF Fall events.

For more information, refer to the Global Announcement of ACF Fall 2016 or email the editors at [email protected].

With just over 1 month to go before the tournament, our field is sitting nicely at 16 teams with a few schools possibly adding additional teams. Get those registrations in!

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday- the tournament ran quite well with only one packet-related hiccup along the way. Congrats to Chicago, Michigan, Illinois, and Kenyon on their trophy wins!

A jacket was left behind in Kresge yesterday that I took home with me- send me a PM if you think it's yours or your teammate's. We also found a set of keys that we think belong to someone from Knox- we'll make sure those get returned as soon as possible.

A public service announcement to teams: if you're going to organize teams in a manner such that your B team is stronger than your A team, or anything similar in that regard, please send the tournament director a roster, or at bare minimum a warning, beforehand! This didn't happen yesterday and it made the prelim brackets unbalanced, which sucks for everyone and is usually avoidable.
