Pre-Tournament Logistics Update:
SCT will be played on Saturday in Paterson Hall. We will meet in Room 101, which is located on the first floor past/under the eastern stairwell.
In order for Saturday to go smoothly and the tournament to be finished a reasonable hour, we will start at 9 AM SHARP! Teams and staffers should strive to be at Carleton by 8:30 am. There will be very little lenience for teams that fail to arrive on time. Absent team members is not an acceptable reason to delay the start of this tournament, so make sure everyone from your school knows where to be and when to be there.
For teams that need parking, your best bet is to park in P1, located behind MacOdrum Library, which is $4 all day. If you don't want your vehicle exposed to the elements, consider P16, the underground lot below River Building, also $4 all day. However, parking in P16 means you will have to take the tunnels to get to Paterson, so it's only recommended for teams with an above average knowledge of Carleton geography (we don't want anyone to run into the Carleton Minotaur!)
For anyone taking public transit to campus, you can take bus routes 4, 7, 104, 111, or the O-Train.
For more details about where Paterson Hall/Parking/Public transit options are, consult a map of Carleton here.
To the best of my knowledge both the food court (Subway/Pizza Pizza/etc.) and the buffet (a veritable smorgasbord) will be open on Saturday. The Tim Hortons on the first floor of the University Centre should also be open, but please don't let your breakfast stop delay the tournament.
The weather may be an issue for this tournament. Currently the forecast for Saturday indicates Ottawa will be clear (but chilly). However, in Canada there is always a risk of a snowstorm. That said, I can only envision 3 likely scenarios in which this tournament would be postponed or cancelled:
1) If there is a significant amount of snowfall predicted by Friday morning for Friday evening or Saturday.
2) If Carleton University administration announces that the school is closed/cancels our room booking due to weather.
3) If there is any sort of shutdown of OC Transpo, the city's major routes, or the highways that go to the city.
In any of these cases, we will work to communicate clearly with NAQT and all teams attending. If you don't hear anything from us, you can assume the tournament is still on. Please drive safely and leave extra time depending on the conditions.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
