Eisenhower Memorial Tournament at Valencia College: May 20

Post by ValenciaQBowl » Fri Mar 10, 2017 11:02 am

Valencia College in The City Beautiful (aka Orlando) will host a mirror of the EMT on Saturday, May 20, 2017. This tournament will be community college heavy, but we expect to have Florida university undergraduate teams attend, and of course all are welcome.

This tournament is restricted to undergraduate students. Full details about definitions of "undergraduate" and such can be found in the original announcement here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =8&t=19515. But y'all know if y'all are undergraduates; don't be a bozo.

The base fee is $100/team. We'll knock off $10 for one buzzer, which is all we'll need from yo, whether we use it or not. And we'll knock off another $10 for a staffer you provide if we use that person to staff.

We'll play in Building 9 on our West Campus (the usual place): http://valenciacollege.edu/map/map-west.cfm

Reply here or e-mail me at cborglum at valenciacollege dot edu if you want to register a team or two. I'm going to implement a soft cap of 24 teams, which would allow us to just use Building 9, but if there's crazy interest above that, I might be persuaded to expand.

So we played this yesterday (May 20), and a fine time was had by all. Thanks to Vasa and the other writers for producing the set and sharing it with us.

Most of our teams were ready to go after 9 RR matches, so we took the top two from each bracket (of ten) and had semis and a final. In the semis, South Fork HS beat Chipola A on the last toss-up, and UCF A beat New College. In the final, UCF A avenged a RR match loss to South Fork to take the title. Of course, we should've had South Fork with an advantage, but I was ready to go to Wing House for beers. So there.
