EFT Open Test Mirror (9/16)

Post by naan/steak-holding toll »

Like last year, there will be a skype mirror of EFT. This will be a full tournament with tossups and bonuses, like last year, and will also cost $15 per player like last year.

Please sign up at this link. Our tentative field cap will be 12 teams.

In addition, we are interested in holding a test open mirror of the tournament in the UK on the same weekend, with the idea being that the large UK open audience would then be able to staff standard school mirrors afterward. If anybody in the UK would be interested in hosting this tournament, please contact me! (EDIT: This is happening at Oxford on October 7th)

I'm playing this. Email or PM me if you're interested in teaming up, particularly if you know science or music.

Good point. The planned start time is 11 ET (should be 8 PT). I have evening commitments, so I don't want to start too late and would like to make sure there's time for a lunch break, etc.

I'm currently a free agent, so hit me up. I know math and literature, and I've been known to get a few clutch buzzes in.

I'm capping the field at six teams - Doug and Manas Sarma's team has been merged with Kenji and Austin Foos.

We will play a double round robin starting at 11AM ET. Please meet ten minutes beforehand in the IRC channel #eftonline

Sorry for the short notice, but would it be too late for me to join one of the still shorthanded teams?

It's been brought up that ten rounds might go a bit long, and that the current audience is likely to score very high PPBs on the set. I'm open to cutting the tournament down to tossups-only (and making a mirror fee reduction to $10 as well due to less moderator effort). What do people think of this idea?

Personally I'm in favor of this, mostly due to time constraints and the fact that as Will noted, we'd spend a lot of time on easy bonus parts.

I wouldn't be super upset if people wanted to play this as tossups only and get on with their lives, but I think it's rather silly to offer a Skype mirror explicitly for the purposes of playtesting and decide to not playtest bonuses, which are a whole half of the tournament. So I prefer keeping tossups/bonuses as long as we can trust the people running the tournament to move everything along smoothly without any delays.

I would prefer to play the bonuses, for several reasons I don't wanna list out.

I think we'll go with bonuses, then. My hope is that we've kept tossups short enough, and that our mods / teams are good enough that rounds shouldn't take too long, and we can get through ten in a fairly reasonable time. We'll pulse-check after the first round robin.
