2019 NAQT Mid-Atlantic SCT @ Virginia Tech (2/9/19)

The Virginia Tech Academic Competition Organization (VTACO) is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Mid-Atlantic site of the NAQT Sectional Championship Tournament on February 9, 2019.

Location
The tournament will take place at McBryde Hall located on 225 Stanger Street A map of campus can be accessed here.

Question Set and Eligibility
There will be two divisions played on their corresponding SCT sets. Eligibility rules of the divisions can be found here.

Format and Rules
Each round will consist of 22 tossups and corresponding bonuses. We will be using NAQT rules, which can be found here.

Fees And Discounts
Base Registration Fee: $135 per team
New Program (SCT) Discount: -$20 per team (A program is considered new if no team from its school competed in or hosted a SCT, CC SCT, ICT, or CCCT in either of the two previous two full competition years)
Buzzer System Discount: -$10 for every working system
Team-Provided Staff Discount: -$40 for each staffer (Must be approved by Tournament Director)
Multiple-Team Discount: -$25 per team after the first

This tournament has a minimum fee of $40.00 per team.

Payments can be made via cash or check addressed to "Academic Competition Organization." If you cannot pay on the day of the tournament please contact me via email at [email protected]. Invoices and W2s will be provided to teams who require them.

You can register for this tournament on NAQT's website here.

Registration will close one week prior to the tournament on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Rosters must be finalized by Saturday 9, 2019.

What is the difference between division I and division II?

In general, Division I has more difficult questions and is intended for players with more quizbowl experience; Division II has easier questions and is intended for players with less quizbowl experience.

NAQT's rules for Division II eligibility are here, and you can read sample packets from each division of the 2018 SCT here (the two sets marked "Sectional Championship Tournament, Division I" and "Sectional Championship Tournament, Division II.")
