Statistics for 2012

Postby The Quest for the Historical Mukherjesus » Mon Mar 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Hi,
I'm assembling statistics for this last season on a google spreadsheet, in case people are interested. I still have to do Penn Bowl, BARGE, MOO, MO, and SCT.

This sort of thing would be extremely good to use for, say, a prediction thread. However, we don't have one of those. Thanks for compiling!

If completeness is your goal maybe consider incorporating the results of the "Texas Invitational"? (http://www.texasquizbowl.org/d/12TI/FinalACF/ and http://www.texasquizbowl.org/d/12TI/FinalNAQT/

Would also give a better idea of where high schools compare to some colleges. Some of them, IMO, definitely deserve to be "ranked".

I'm not sure if you really want an incessant string of stat corrections, but I figure it's easier here than sending e-mails.

I did not play MOO for Minnesota. Andrew did not play SCT for Minnesota. Eliza didn't play any of those tournaments on the A team except for MOO. Robin Heinonen played MOO, SCT, and Regionals on the A team and will in all likelihood play on the A team at ICT and ACF Nationals.

lololnotthatimportantstatcorrections

Jarret didn't play MOO. Kirun was not on the A team at SCT. For future reference, Jacob did not play BARGE. Most importantly, Jarret has one t in his name.

I think there needs to be a point where we assume that the statistics approximate a full A team

Agreed. But please keep posting any and all corrections, including name spelling issues (I grew up in an environment where my last name was misspelled all the time). I would especially be interested in hearing any corrections to actual game statistics (ie Penn losing 100 points in one game at MAGNI, Chris not being there for the first game of ACF regs) so that the stats are more reflective.

This probably doesn't matter, but the Buffalo Penn Bowl mirror isn't listed.

It seems that on the assumed A teams you've permuted the names of the teams at the bottom in an interesting way.

Also, as far as we're concerned you shifted us down 1 ppb at MOO, and our lineup at MOO was JT and I, while at Penn Bowl and BARGE (when you do that one) was Harrison and myself, and we were missing Dargan at Regionals as well, so unfortunately any data you have on us is usually as a half-team of specialists, but hey it couldn't be helped. In addition our PPB data from SCT will not be helpful to anyone whatsoever since we played on a combined field.

Of course, the spreadsheet that you compile the PPBs of the contenders is not offensive to anyone at Alabama, for we are clearly not contenders. More seriously, it's understandable how one wouldn't necessarily be able to get a read on how we'll do in the near future though, especially if one just glances at the numbers for the above-mentioned reasons. I figured I'd mention this because musing about such things is one possible use of this spreadsheet compilation. For what it's worth, our full A team is myself, Dargan, Jonathan, and Harrison.

*Matt, it does matter for completeness of statistics.

Why is Georgia Tech X'ed out for SCT? Will Butler + Greg Peacock = close enough to their "A" team for government work. It's certainly not like Regionals, where everyone minus Butler was evenly split among three teams...

Also, pretty sure Jarrett Greene does not play for Tech, and Will Butler does not play for VCU.

(Go Jackets?)

Edit: Also, you don't have the stats from UGA BARGE in there, it appears.

At ICT it will be Rafael, me, Maggie and Matt Byrd. This lineup has never played together. The closest we came was MAGNI where we had an empty chair instead of Matt (one of the top scorers at that tournament and we still finished 2nd or sorta tied for first so NAQT please consider this when seeding thanks in advance I don't like how teams are totally eliminated on the results of essentially two or three competitive games I wish the multi-day nationals faction had won that argument a few years ago).
