The Quizbowl Team at the University of Washington and the Lakeside High School Quizbowl Team is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the first annual Washington Winter High School Quizbowl Tournament on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 in at Lakeside High School in Seattle. Note that the tournament's date and location have been changed. It will no longer be held at UW on 2/21.

TIME, DATE AND LOCATION:
The tournament will be taking place at Lakeside High School in Seattle, WA. Registration will be from 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM, and we hope to get rounds started by 9:15 AM. We anticipate the tournament going until around 3:00 PM or earlier for most teams, although the tournament may go longer for teams playing in the final.

QUESTIONS:
This tournament will be run on NAQT’s IS-80A set. For example of IS-A set series, please see http://naqt.com/samples/t1160packet_1.pdf.

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
This tournament will be a qualifier for NAQT’s High School National Tournament in Chicago. The top team at the tournament will qualify, and if the field is larger than 7 teams, the runner-up will also qualify. We are also seeking to become a qualifier PACE’s National Scholastic Championship in Washington, D.C. More details forthcoming.

PRICING:
Base Fee: $60 per Team (schools may bring more than one team).
Additional Team discount: -$10 per Team.
Buzzer Discount: -$10 per Quizbowl buzzer; -$5 per Knowledge Bowl buzzer (as these buzzers are less ideal for quizbowl).
Moderator Discount: -$10 per Moderator per School.
Travel Discount: -$10 per team traveling over 150 miles one way to the tournament.
Minimum Fee per Team: $30.

ELIGIBIBLITY:
All high school teams are eligible for this tournament. See NAQT’s eligibility rules at: http://naqt.com/hs/high-school-eligibility.html. There is no limit on the number of teams one school can enter into this tournament.

RULES:
Please see NAQT’s rules at http://naqt.com/rules.html. We will not be using timed rounds; our rounds will be 24 tossups (and up to 24 accompanying bonuses).

We ended up having 7 teams, with Lakeside A defeating Peninsula in the final match of a single elimination bracket.
