PLAYOFF RESULTS: FINALS and 3RD PLACE GAME

Congratulations to Rockford Auburn A, the champions of WUHSAC XI. They put together an impressive preliminaries record, going 5-0 and scoring a whopping 502.0 PPG, before winning all of their playoff games before taking the final game against this year's runner-up, Carbondale, 300-160.

Meanwhile, Parkway Central A proved to be this year's bracket busters, upsetting No. 3 Francis Howell Central in the quarterinals before edging out a hard-fought match against No. 4 Eureka in the 3rd-place game.

Thanks so much to all who came out, whether to play or to help run this event. We hope you all had a great time, and hope to see you back next year!

Finals:
(1) Rockford Auburn A 300
(2) Carbondale 160

3rd Place
(4) Eureka 80
(6) Parkway Central A 120

Hey, what was the distribution? We heard something like 2/2 Current Events, 2/2 Pop Culture, 2/2 Science, and 2/2 Math Computation (with the remainder being history/literature), but that's just our guess.

*Just to note, we also heard fine arts, religion, mythology, philosophy, and social sciences--I lumped them under history (I was thinking Social Studies, my apologies)

You did hear 2/2 math comp but that was actually reduced slightly from some rounds having 3/2 or 2/3 math comp in previous years. You most DEFINITELY did not hear 2/2 pop culture as I WROTE the pop culture as I have for the last 8 years and do not allow more than 1/1 in the distribution. Also there was no more than 1/1 of Current events in this distribution. We are quite strict about this.

Maybe because there's already been complaints that some categories were distributed strangely.

Posting the distribution seems to me the best way to deal with that.

Actually, I think I'm the only one who complained...and to be honest, I wouldn't be too surprised if I was wrong.

So, no worries about me complaining if I see the distribution and I was wrong...

P.S. Yes, I know that I haven't asked for it yet...I've been busy.

Sorry for not being on the past couple days and not responding to these requests. First:
master15625 wrote:Will questions for this tournament also be posted?
Not at this time, until details for a potential east-coast mirror have been ironed out, and the date for said event has passed.
Charbroil wrote:Alright, thanks for clarifying. I still think the actual distribution would be interesting to look at, though.
Here is the distribution we used for this set:

4/4 History (2/1 or 1/2 for Euro and American each round, 1/1 non-western)
4/4 Literature (2/2 European, 2/1 or 1/2 American, and the last question Non-western)
4/4 Science (1/1 each of Bio, Chem, Physics, and Other)
2/2 Math (About 3 of those 4 calculation, the other theory)
2/2 Art (1/1 Visual, 1/1 Music)
2/2 RMP/Social Sciences (Mostly the former)
1/1 Geography
1/1 Trash
1/1 Current Events

I don't know how this compares to the "traditional" high school distribution. I know I've strived for a hybrid between what has been the distribution in WUHSACs past, and formats like ACF and HSAPQ (what is the distribution on the latter, btw?). I personally will never eliminate math calculation from HS events entirely (sorry guys, I just don't buy your arguments laid out on the "policy" page, but that discussion has been reiterated too many times as it is), but I will gladly take any suggestions about the current distro.

Alright, thanks. We probably turned the 1/1 Current Events & Trash in our minds into "2 questions," which translated to 2/2 in my post.

And thanks for the well run tournament, by the way. It was a pleasure attending.

From past experience, yes. Each packet is 21/21 in case of (a) a mistake which requires replacing a question and/or (b) a sudden-death overtime.

It's 1/1 Trash and 1/1 CE, which adds up to 2/2 Trash or CE.

So you'll gladly take any suggestions except for the one suggestion that any reasonable person will have, which is to eliminate the 10% of your match dedicated to bad, not-quizbowl questions? That doesn't seem like you will be glad to take suggestions at all!
